Took Bo to Bo's Bottom tonight and cut him from the Top of Hog Back Ridge to the East toward the River almost a mile away. I don't keep up with time or stats on the Garmin other than check how far they are time to time and when they tree. But tonight I decided to watch the clock and the Garmin and take notes mainly because it's a couple threads talking about Big Motors in Blues and I just wanted to see the numbers on BO for myself. Cut him at 8:23 and he was treed at 8:33. He was 0.71 miles from me, right at 3/4 of a mile. His speed average was 7.06 MPH. He had traveled 1.13 miles. He struck hot and smoked it about 200 yards and blew the top out. He had the Coon in a medium size tree with No Leaves. Easy to find and see. I took Video and Pictures but can't get Photobucket to Upload. So, in 10 minutes Flat from Tailgate to Tree 3/4 of a mile away with the Coon and moving at a speed of over 7 MPH through a Swamp Bottom. No fields to cross and he wasn't running a 4 wheeler trail. South Mississippi Thickets not Corn Country Open Woods. The numbers look great to me and his Motor is plenty Big Enough for this Redneck. I knew the past couple months Bo has been on Fire but until I put the watch on him I didn't know just how quick he was getting it done. And he's Fat and out of shape from me hunting Bob and Bam the Fall and Winter. Not trying to Brag just stating the Facts after I looked at the Watch and Garmin numbers. Over 7 MPH in these woods is Flying.

Bob treed below Hog Back Ridge last night in Bo's Bottom. He worked a Tough Track and came treed on this dead tree that went into a Big Beech and Magnolia. He could have been there but I believe he missed. I have seen this young hound do a Jam Up Job on tracks like he tackled last night and he's had the Coon but even the Best on a tough one will miss now and then.


Donald the Best thing in the World for Kids these days is to be doing something outside and enjoying it like Mason was enjoying tilling the fertilizer into that row. The Worst thing for Kids these days is the Cell Phones, Computers and TV. Ruining Kids. They will all grow up being Tech Savvy but Ignorant in Common Sense and won't know how to do a thing outside a computer screen. They live in a Virtual World not the Real World. A good friend of mines Wife and 9 year old daughter got into it the other day when his Wife wanted her cell phone back and the daughter wouldn't let her have it. Ended up the Kid jerked her Moms hair and Dad had to get involved to get the phone where they found out the 9 year old kid was talking stuff that usually were talked about when you were 15 or older. What's sad is the Dad gave his wife her phone back but now the kid is using his phone. Not my business but that's what's wrong with kids these days is Parents like that. Teaching the Kid Nothing and letting them learn it all on the Internet. when Mason is over here he will enjoy the kind of Life I was brought up in and that's what he loves to do. He loves the outdoors and for us to read a book or maybe put in a DVD and watch a movie. Proud of my Little Buddy, he's a Big Help to Pawpaw.

ROCKET THE RACCOON! Been a while since BO and I tangled with Ole Rocket but tonight was the Night! Loaded Bo up on the 4 Wheeler and into Black Branch Swamp we went. I cut him loose just before 8:30 and by the time this Adventure was over and Bo and I were Safely back on the 4 wheeler it was 11:13. Almost 3 hours of Rocket Racing! When I cut Bo loose he got in over 300 quick and got struck and headed North East. He came treed pretty quick and I was thinking of you Mr. Jack. Bo treed right where Bam did that night he worked that track in there and treed on a Gnarly Oak in a young pine thicket just up from the wet Swamp. Well I believe it was the same tree Bo was on tonight and just like when Bam treed I found Bo's Coon quick and he looked Very Unhappy to be up that tree. I made a little racket with my mouth and he went to moving so I reached in my Vest and pulled out the Chatter Box Coon Squaller and turned the Video on my phone. I hit that Squall a few hits and here Rocket came. straight down that tree to BO. I got a good video of it all but I will never get it uploaded to Photo Bucket here at the house but I snap shot these pictures from the Video. You can see the coon coming down the tree then the next picture is the instant he jumps off the tree and sailed one foot over Bo's head and the next one shows him running off. It was a Frantic few seconds to say the least and I got Bo unhooked and he caught him in those pines at 127 yards but Rocket fought Free just like he did before. He got to the Swamp and all that water and slowed Bo a little but not much. Then he took him through the Old Hog Wire Fence a couple times but Bo found his way through quick and was still rolling him. Rocket lined out headed South to a Big Duck Lake that I have shot a many a Wood Duck off of over the years. It's Nasty around the South Edge with Shallow water, Brush, Dead Trees and Stumps laid out everywhere with Swam Grass and Cat Tails. Rocket got in that and around and around in there he went slowly breaking Bo down until he was just opening every now and then still trying to get him out of that Bad Stuff. He finally fell treed after an hour and a half from when Rocket had jumped out of the tree. He was over 800 yards from the closest I could get on the 4 wheeler so I struck out through Black Branch Swamp. He was treed in another young pine thicket winding up into a Huge Old Turkey Pine and I found the Coon stretched out on a Huge limb that looked almost as big as a 5 gallon bucket. I petted Bo up and we headed back out of Black Branch Swamp. One thing I thought of all the way back was, " Did Bo tree Rocket a 2nd time tonight or did he tree another Coon that was laid up listening to Bo run Rocket for so long? You decide......... The Legend Lives On.

You know Steve, Donald and I talk about this very thing all the time. Is this the coon they started out on or not? Well we have come to the conclusion, it don't really matter. He treed and had the coon, that's what matters. We will just let the unknown that care of itself.

Even though most the leaves are back on the tree's I'm still finding the Coon's Bo and Bob are treeing. Last night Bo was 2 for 2 and it didn't take long. Took him to Black Branch Swamp again and half way in he struck off the back of the 4 wheeler. I stopped and cut him. He left out and made a quick hundred yard circle with not a bark and came back to the 4 wheeler trail behind the 4 wheeler. I watched him rear up on his hind legs and he caught wind of it again and went to bawling. He stayed with his head up and zeroed in on a bushy oak 50 feet off the trail and fell treed. I went in and looked up and the Coon was laid out on a limb looking straight down at me. Took a couple Videos and loaded him back up, drove a little further and recut. He got in 800 yards deep in a hurry, hit a hot track and smoked it and fell treed on another oak. I drove within a 100 yds of him and found the Coon in a big fork with his tail giving him away because this one wasn't looking. Got some bad weather moving in late tonight and tomorrow hoping it holds off long enough to let us make another round.

Went out last night to Collar Bo up for a hunt and he was holding his right front paw up. I looked at it and only the inside toe was swollen a little so I give him some Benadryl thinking he had just hung his nail on something. This morning his whole paw was swollen, Snake Bit. He was fine yesterday morning so it didn't happen in the Swamp Thursday night, it happened in the Kennel. Thursday evening I was pushing with the tractor behind the Kennel and when I pushed through a pile of dirt some small Copper Heads came sliding out of it so I guess that's what got to Ole Bo. I give him 3 Benadryl this morning and a shot of 3 1/2 CC of Penicillin. I will do that twice a day for a few days and he should be fine.

Caught another Big One today! Right at 30 pounds and one of my other lines had signs that it held a big one a while but he had got off. I had to go to the DR. early yesterday and didn't check them and I believe if I would have he would have still been on there. Snow and I got them baited up again and about to go cut Bob loose now. Looking for some more Big Ones to be on there later tonight!

Bob treed last night and a Sinker Cypress being washed out of the bank that I found today. Bob hit a fair track a little over 300 yards in and worked it up pretty quick and got hooked. He did a good job on that track and really sounded good on the tree. That was the only drop Snow and I made because we wanted to get back to the River and the fishing. Trying to catch as many Big Ones as we can while the weather is good and they are biting trying to fill up before the spawn starts in a few weeks. We caught some smaller ones but not another Big One. Got the lines baited up though for tonight and got my fingers crossed there's a Big Tree Shaker on there in the morning. Found 2 Sinker Cypress today and this one was grooved up the most. Will make some fine Mantles.

Mr. Jack came over for a hunt last night and brought Ginn 11. We loaded her and Bo in the Rhino and went over to Bo's Bottom and cut them from top of Hog Back Ridge. Bo struck close to 700 yards and worked his way around the slough toward the Beaver Lake. We rode and got closer and could here both hounds busting the water hunting the tree or the track out of there. They worked him in that water a while and Bo ended up treed on a Big Dead Oak that had broke off about 15 feet up and Ginn was on a Big Magnolia about 20 feet away. We looked for a while but couldn't find him. Next drop they got struck and trailed off to our left and away from us and Ginn got hooked first at just over 300 yards. That Little Girl was telling us to hurry and come see the coon. Bo backed her and they were on a good sized oak and we looked a while but couldn't find him but felt sure he was up there somewhere. Ginn is doing outstanding for a Pup that's not a year old yet. Real good mouth that you can hear a long ways and loves the water as much as a duck. Me and Bo enjoyed the company and had a good time. Mr. Jack has another fine female in the making at Misty River Kennels.

Took Bo down to Franklinton, La. last night to their RQE. It's only about 30 minutes from the house. I was asked if I could Guide if needed and I said sure, won't make any friends carrying them to Black Branch Swamp but I will put them on Coon. We had a 3 dog cast, Bo and 2 Walkers and we went to Black Branch Swamp. It was flooded as we had an inch and a half of rain Thursday but Bo loves it and I was hoping the Home Field Advantage put the odds in Bo's favor. I walked them in there a half mile before we cut them the first time. Bo got 2nd Strike and First Tree. It was in the Bad Stuff and no place to shine the Big Oak from so circle Bo and the Walker up. The other Walker wasn't treed and after a bit came in to us and took minus. We walked them a little and recut. Bo took 3rd strike and it was a bad track that they worked on for 45 minutes looking up now and then but moving on. The other Walker came in to us and took minus and I knew I was in the Drivers Seat if Bo would get under a Coon. He located with 11 minutes left in the hunt and I knew he wasn't right but I put him on the paper but a few seconds later he moved on. I took minus. Bo picked his head up then and left out and I knew he would get real deep quick and he did. The other Walker treed in there close with a couple minutes left but tree was empty. We started the long walk back to the trucks because Bo was over 600 from us and had the track rolling. We got to the trucks and Bo was treed 3/4 of a mile u the swam and he was Hammering it. Hunt had been over about 30 minutes. We all shook hands and me and Snow road up the little county road to within 300 of Bo and I took off to him. He was on a Big Bushy Oak that I could shine from a fields edge and I found the Coon. Wide set of eyes looking down at me I figured was Ole Rocket. Had a dead cast but a great time with good guys and good hounds working a bad track in the flooded swamp. Time I got home my back was a mass of muscle spasms and pain and it took 2 hours before it eased up and I could go to bed. I doubt I will get to make anymore hunts in the near future but I had to suck it up and make this one and give Bo a chance and I'm glad I did. Enjoyed it despite the Pain.

I look forward to this time of year because it's Crawfish Season and all the good Crawfish we boil up. Mason loves Crawfish but I believe he likes this time of year the best for, Black Berries! Coons Love them to and soon the Cold Tracks in the Swamps will lead to the Cutovers and field edges that have Briars loaded with Blackberries. The Briars getting Full Sun will ripen early like the ones Mason and I have here on the Sandbar Upriver from the house. They are loaded even heavier this year than last. As I told him, GOB's of Berries! My Little Buddy loves to wade out in those Briars and eat a belly full. If we are to have any for Jelly or Pies I have to be quicker than him and stash some back. We had a great time Friday evening Boiling 2 sacks of Crawfish and picking Berries that evening and today. River Life at it's Best.

Picture of the River here this evening. We had over 3" of Rain around 4am this morning and they got more than us upriver. River has came up fast and is Rocking. Supposed to crest at 18 feet. I don't have to worry until it hits 20 or above but they have been wrong before so I will be keeping an eye on it off and on tonight. Didn't move anything out yet but am prepared to move fast if necessary.
Sleepy called today and he had Ann at the Vet getting an Ultrasound and she is Full of Bo pups. So proud to hear that! Going to be some good looking, hard going, loud mouth Coon Tree'ers in that Litter!

Finally got my MRI done today and got 2 copies on CD so I would have it to look at and show Snow and my Chiropractor until I have the follow up with the Neurosurgeon which won't be until the 21st of this month. Feel sorry for all the folks that's in pain trying to get fixed because our Health Care in this Country is as Slow as I have ever seen. Top picture is a Normal Spine, Bottom picture is mine, the Train Wreck. I have Bulging or Herniated Disc all the way down, L-5 is sitting on S-1 and crushing all those Nerves and L-5 going into S-1 does Not Align like it should. Snow said it looks like it Slid. I have busted my Butt many times following these Hounds or Pulling these Logs and no telling if that's what did it. I was told by an X-Ray Tech that she can't believe I can still walk so good. Which I can't compared to how I normally would walk. Was hoping it would be a quick simple surgery that would fix me right up with a short recovery time but ain't looking that way. Will know what can or can't be done on the 21st. Not putting this on here for anybody to feel sorry for me cause I'm not going to feel sorry for myself. It is what it is and I will Push On and do everything I can until I can't. Always posted things that's important in my life on here and this is one of those important things that is Greatly Affecting my Life. Beverly continues to get better every day and it's been almost a month since her surgery. She is a trooper and my inspiration to keep putting one foot in front of the other even if it hurts, Never Quit. Stay Calm and Carry On.

Haven't hunted since last Friday night. Been busy mowing grass, tilling the Garden, Weed eating, ect. Doing what I can and when dark comes I don't have any gas left in the tank to take the Hounds out. Been in a lot of pain since I laid on the MRI table which really got my back to hurting. The 21st can't get here soon enough to see what they going to do to try and get me fixed or some relief. The Garden is looking good and the picture is the row of tomato's which most are blooming now. Looking forward to that first BLT Sandwich. Love them! Been boiling Crawfish and setting out by the campfire at night fishing now that the River has gone back down to normal. It took most of my Bank Sets so Snow and I rigged up 8 Bamboo poles Sunday and got them set out but not baited yet. The one in the picture is on top of a Big Sinker Cypress that's being washed out of the bank where it's been buried for 100's of years. I will let one more flood wash on it some more then I will cut and winch all that's uncovered. If you wait to long and it washes the whole tree out it will drop to the bottom of that 12 foot deep river water never to be seen or found again. Each flood uncovers History that continues to amaze me with all that I find. Sinker Cypress, Arrowheads, Indian Pottery. Petrified Wood, Timbers that have been cut out by AX with square nails in them, the list goes on and on. I hated History in School but I love my River History while I'm River Livin.

Thanks Jeff. We enjoy it here on the River. We had set out 8 Bank Bamboo Poles Sunday and I baited them up Wednesday evening. Had a lot of running in town to do Thursday morning and it was Beverly's Birthday and I wanted to carry her to Breakfast so I was up at the crack of Dawn checking the lines. First Pole I got to was Gone! A huge Catfish had tore it out of the bank where I had stabbed it deep into the mud. A couple more lines showed signs a big one had been there but No Fish. We got back from town before lunch and I told Beverly lets ride up to where that pole is missing. I knew he couldn't get far dragging that pole without tangling up and sure enough we found him tangled in the top limbs of a White Oak tree that fell off the bank into the River last year. I eased up into that top with him and pulled on the line and got him close enough to see he was Big! He didn't like it to well and started getting a little upset. Fearing he would tear loose and drag the pole off into deeper water to where I couldn't get him I went home and got the Rifle. Not the one that Mr. Jack tested out underwater when it was New but an older Browning automatic I use to use before I bought the Ruger. Got back into that treetop with him and slowly pulled on the line and got him up out of the dark depths of the Bogue Chitto River. When he was about 2 feet from me I eased the rifle under water and put 3 rounds at his open mouth. The water turned Red and I loaded our Birthday Fish up and came on home. This fish had more meat on him than some deer I've killed in my past, lol! I figured he weighed between 50 and 60 pounds and is the biggest one I have ever caught out of the River. Fish Fry at 3 today! Also caught a Loggerhead Snapping Turtle Wednesday that was pretty big. Going to cook that up to and see how he taste.

Beverly said thanks Mr. Jack. She had a good Birthday. We caught another Big One this morning. Snow, Kim and Amber came out to stay the weekend and Amber's Birthday was Wednesday so we had bought her a Rod and Reel for her birthday and that Girl wore the Bream out from our Pier. I think we had over 30 bream in our basket at one point. She was with us when we checked the lines this morning and one of the poles that had her bream on it caught this 25 pound Spotted Cat. Not near as big as yesterdays fish but a fine one none the less. We had a family get together today and I fried up the fish and hushpuppies and Beverly made a Coup Be Yon with the Turtle. I know I didn't spell that right but it sounds like that. It's a Cajun Dish. Beverly knocked it out of the park, it was great. I am missing Coon Hunting as I haven't been in 2 weeks but I am really enjoying catching these big fish and just plain out having fun. My Chiropractor looked at my MRI and said I should be thankful and grateful for everyday I wake up and can do the things I'm still able to do. He told me and Beverly a lot but I want get into that until I hear from the Surgeon Thursday because he didn't have any good news. I will get back to Coon Hunting a little after this weekend but until then, May the Fish continue to Bite!

Steve, looks like a lot of good eating. I always look forward catching a batch of catfish every spring and having a cookout at the camp ground. We slice up a big batch of fresh potatoes & cook them on a big old iron pan on campfire. Nothing better than a big fish fry. Hope you get your back fixed soon & can enjoy the river & your hounds for years to come. Take care, Ron.

Thanks Ron. Yep, there's nothing like getting together and having fun catching a batch of fish and frying them up while the Grandkids swim in the River and keep asking when you going to take them in the boat to bait the lines. Good Times Indeed. I love Coon Hunting but we have to Slow Down with the Hounds sometimes and remind ourselves there are other things in life we love to do and should take time to enjoy them also. I fish a little every year but if it wasn't for the back trouble that has me slowed way down I probably would have been taking Bo to more hunts instead of fishing as hard as I have been. But the hunt I had him in 2 weeks ago showed me he was ready to win his share but I sure wasn't. Couldn't hardly walk by the end of that night and it has gotten worse since. So, I have just slowed down a bit and truly enjoyed fishing the past few weeks and haven't hunted since that night. Will try to get Bo back in the woods a little this coming up week and looking forward to meeting with Surgeon Thursday and hearing my options. Chiropractor does not think Surgery can help and does not think they will offer it as an option and if they do he feels like it's a chance it would leave me in Worse shape than I'm in now. He thinks injections to help with pain is about all can be done. Said my entire back is a mess top to bottom and nothing is aligned like it should be. He was 100 percent correct just from looking at the X-rays he took so I have faith in what he says now but also hope he's wrong. I also have Carpel Tunnel in my right hand and after shucking the thick hides off those big fish my fingers on that hand are tingling and numb all day and in the morning cant hardly hold my toothbrush to brush my teeth. I know everybody has problems as we age just was hoping mine was a little further down the road of life before they caught up with me. Maybe its God's way of slowing me down to write that Book I been talking about or do more fishing or other things in my life other than wading in Black Branch Swamp. Knowing I wouldn't ever slow down unless I HAD TO. I hope all is good up your way and that Spring is warming yaw up a bit and letting you enjoy the hounds or the other things in life that you enjoy doing. Happy Easter To All.
