hey HOBO. just a report on one of your ol potlickers. after showing it to a few young dogs I turned a coon loose the other night. it was about 84 degrees. So then i went up the road aways and cut ol Blue loose. He soon struck a track and was moving it pretty good. A little too good i thought, but was hoping it still was a coon. Bam he fell treed at about 400 yards. He has a good mouth so he sounded closer than that.
so I head in to him and when i see he is barking into some tall grass i start to worry. But when that awful smell hit my nose i really was worried. I yell and scold Blue and he leaves it alone. i aint touching him and he follows me back to the truck. On the way back i was alittle hesitant about cutting him again, especailly since his nose is probably not working to well now. But i decide to let him out where the coon was released 2 hours earlier.
He runs up the creek and aaaauuuggghhhh he sounds good. He moves on and aaaauuuugggghhhh. He keeps with it. He is headed deep. those beautiful bawls are getting alittle closer together now. GPS says 850 yds. so i pull the truck up the road to get a little closer.there is a walkable road but not drivable. He's still with it.
Took him about 45 minutes, maybe longer but he treed. I sure was hoping it wasn't another skunk. it was about 900 yard walk for me but i was sure happy when i got there. He had the coon and i could tell it was the same one i released because of a few distinguishing marks. mask and ring tail....LOL just kidding i made sure it was the same female coon. the GPS says it was .6 miles straight back to where i released the coon, but they took a round about way to get there. I think i may keep him.
