Since I last updated....
*Sugar (Ox x Rose) won second place at the Iowa State Youth Hunt
*Baby (Rock x Star) won her cast at National Redbone Days, but just missed placing in the RQE
*Reb (Rip x Maggie) picked up another 2nd place win and finished to NITECH
*Mischief (Ox x Trouble) picked up another NITECH win
*Fury (Rip x Rose) picked up another NITECH win
A somewhat interesting story.....We were wanting to breed our Baby dog this time around, and Ox and Rip were both dogs we considered, so we decided that Rip would be the one to try since he is now 11. We were not sure if he was sterile, though we had him drawn last year, and his sperm count was still very good, but the vet has said these things can change quickly. So, we bred Baby to Rip on the first day she would stand......9/21/16. Rip died the next day. So, to say we were skeptical that the breeding would take would be an understatement. It seems to have though, Baby appears to be bred!
So, anyway, the moral of the story is we lost ol' Ripper. He was a fun dog. Started early and easily, at about 8 1/2 months. He was split treeing from the older dogs shortly thereafter, and was a pretty independent dog (especially in competition), almost to a fault in our eyes. He had a beautiful bawl mouth. In almost every cast I ever spectated with Rip, people were commenting "that's how a hound is supposed to sound." Rip had a big, die-bawl locate that a kid could call, and was a good steady tree dog. He was a fun dog to run in the games too.....an excellent swimmer that would really launch out there nice. He had a good cold nose, and could really push a track. He currently has 78 pups, and 8 hunt titled pups for a reproduction rate of 10.25%. That would be pretty close to the top of the Reproducers list if we could have got him to 100 pups. The thing of it is, a large majority of Rip pups were sold to pleasure hunters, so when you take that into consideration....he really put his stamp on his pups, naturals.
I made a short video (see the link below) of Rip & his pups. Enjoy!
