doesnt look like the alabama female took

talked with the guy yesterday and he thinks he bred her too early. I would jump on jeffs pup. Drifter pups are rare and hard to get your hands on.

Drifter pup

I took my pup out for the first time tonight. Cut him loose with his momma and he took off right away. Before I knew it he was .62 miles out working a track. They got into a bad spot so I picked up scout and he was still 350 yards out tracking by himself. This pups only 5 months old and has had little training, hasn't even seen a live coon yet. Can't wait to get him going!

Drifter

Hello Drifter fans , just wanted to get on here for a few minutes to catch up with everyone .. Hope everyone is doing good and having some fun this winter while the leaves are off .. My female didn't take but I will be breeding her to Drifter again sometime around March if everything goes well between now and then .. So keep a look out this summer for some Drifter pups .. I bought one from a Buddy of mine in Ohio , he has a old blooded Finley river female , so I took a chance and boy was it worth it .. My Drifter pup is around 7 months old now .. I don't push training on pups at a young age , I try to let it come natural to them .. I hunt a old hog farm a few miles from my house , and it has a lot of barn cats running around .. I noticed at 3 months old my pup would tree them but he would just set at the bottom of the tree and look up it , so I knew right then he had somewhat a natural draw to cats / coons .. So I worked with him on a drag a little and let him know that's what I wanted out of him .. This pup has never seen a live Coon at this time .. So I continued letting him get use to the dark and just be a pup .. Last night I carried him and my nite champ gyp with 3 wins to grand out , he is 7 months old now .. My gyp fell treed at 750 yards , so I started in to them .. I noticed on my garmin my pup kept checking trees around where she was , I walked on a little more and all of a sudden he fell treed , and I mean when he fell treed , he treed like a 5 year old dog .. To make a long story short she was slick as owl **** and he had the Coon .. I have seen pups tree caged coons at 6 months old , but I have never seen a pup do it by himself at that age .. It is hard to believe , but that's the gods honest truth .. I was shocked myself .. So if anyone is wondering about drifter or wanting pups off him , I would not second guess him ! He is throwing some really nice pups ! The man that owns Drifter is just a good guy and a hard working , honest guy .. He doesn't get on here trying to talk his dog up or tell you something that isn't true to try to get your money , he don't have time for it nor is he that kind of person .. He is a great guy to deal with and will help you anyway he can , and will tell you the truth more importantly ! So if you want to breed a NICE female to him , give him a call .. He will help you anyway he can .. Drifter is the real deal , and more importantly , he is putting it in his pups .. Stop wasting your money and time breeding to these dogs that 50 different people are pushing and advertising ! I will put this dog up against any stud dog alive today ! 3M Drifter , that's the dog your looking for .. Thanks Brandon

well there you go...a real live testimonial.

Brandon. I knew Drifter would reproduce. His pedigree said he was plus he was a grand nite ch off a Gr. Nt. ch and of course I knew a lot of the dogs from way back that was behind him. You had to be a coondog follower from the early 80's to recognize who those dogs were and also who was breeding them.

Eric Franks turned me on to Dennis and Drifter when he first found them. He got a young maybe 10 or 11 month old pup that had maybe seen a couple caged coons but that was it. Eric took that dog home and the first nite he just went hunting good, next nite out I think he split treed and treed maybe 2 coons and then the third time out treed 7 coons by himself.
Eric is a hard hard hunting motor scooter with a lot of drive and knows what a coondog is and shoots it straight whether you like it or not. He is honest when it comes to coondogs for a fact. He told me then that drifter was one of the best reproducers he had ever seen. He will tell you now the best coondog he ever owend
was off of Drifters granddaddy Chainsaw. And Eric has owned some great ones. That says a lot.
If you live around the Joplin, Mo or east kansas area, you need to get those females backed up to old drifter.
Let me know buddy when you get that cross made. Pm me what town you live in so I can see how far you are from me.

I just got my cooner and saw John Monroe is advertising a dog with a similar ped. Drifter and the Style dog takes this old man down memory lane. I have walked ALOT of nights to dogs in their ped. Thanks guys for the smile on my face and the tears in my eyes. Keep the old Finley River blood flowing.

just saw that myself bud.

I think that is validation on Drifter. I saw one look at his pedigree and told Dennis he should stud him out.
The dog that John has is out of drifters brother crossed back on their great grandmother...so he is more line bred than even drifter if that is possible. Plus for John to put a 7 generation pedigree on there meant that he is proud of this line breeding. Between Drifter and now the dog John Monroe is studding, I'd say Id get to breeding these fine females to either one of these two dogs.

I'll bet you Johns dog will reproduce super dogs just like drifter does. Drifter throws just pure natual coondogs that are accurate. thats rare.

Roy I am with you....I showed against

kayo Grimes several times back in the day. Pretty sure I showed against Rosie at one time the last dog on these dogs pedigree.
Males showed against females back in the day.
I kept up with old Randy Singleton one of the old Poor boys breeders.

Poor boy's Flash

Flash was out of Gr. Nt. ch Martins Wild Pine easy
and a female called Poor Boys Kate II

You can go back up to drifters pedigree and find her in there.
So Johns dog is double up what is already the best line bred dog Ive ever seen. I cant see how Johns dog cant reproduce.....
man breed him back on to one of Drifters daughters and you are set for coon hunting life with pups.

Cold Nosed Track Dogs!

I've enjoyed reading some of these posts. Haven't had a coon dog now since 1993 but still go some with my hunting buddy of 32 years. He's been looking for a good cold nosed coon dog that can turn an old track into a hot one and have the meat in the tree at the end for several years now. From what I read the majority seems to be looking for the near silent, go yonder tree dogs that never check in. We don't like that kind! He had a really good one years ago that met an untimely death at 3 yrs. old. She died from canine bloat and was taken just as she entered her prime. She was out of old Merchants Bounty and a Nt. Ch. White Hills female out of CT. That was back in 2004 and he's been through a bunch of titled dogs since trying to find something to fill her shoes.

He had another really good Nt Ch male in the 80's, a male out of Gr. Nt. Ch. Honey Creek Dan and Gr Ch Nt Ch Hoods Finley River Jody. A few weeks ago Jeff Jackson sent him a very, very nice 6 mos. old male out of Drifter and Jeff's older Finley River bred female. I'm really looking forward to seeing this young dog start and hope he has inherited the traits many of his ancestors possessed. I buried old Finley River Jody in my back yard in late March of 1988. She had belonged to another really good friend who gave her to me at 8 yrs. old. I had hunted with her many, many nights since she was a puppy. She was a daughter to Dual Gr. Ch. Finley River Banjo and Nt Ch Loan Oak Judy. Hoods Jody was also the grandmother to Dual Gr Ch Finley River Night Hawk. His mother was out of the first cross of Jody and Honey Creek Dan.

Though my friend Tony has never met Jeff Jackson they have talked on the phone frequently for several years now. Thanks for your generosity Jeff in making this young male available. I promise you, you couldn't have put him in any better hands. He'll have the best of care and be given every opportunity to meet his fullest potential and you will be kept posted on what he does........but then you already knew that I'm sure. Guess I've rambled on to long! Best regards from NH!!

some top hunters in the country are zeroing in

On drifter...the legend John Monroe has a brother to him at stud and Randy singleton the man who started this line over 30 years ago has a couple friends who have studs out of drifters sister.

These hounds are the old school cold nose great track dogs. No slick treeing idiots in this line of hounds
Rand has pups coming and a few on the ground out of those local studs
