Dave came out late and took Griz and Bo to the woods for a couple of drops. He didn't take the camera but he told the story real good so I guess not so bad.

Two dumps, two tracks and two trees with the meat. He said both dogs did good and the last one they had to flush out of some nasty bull doze piles and then tree it up the hill about 40 yards so a good night overall. He left late and was back pretty early so I didn't know how it went until today...was a pretty good night.

Carl, the dogs look good, you guys are treeing coons pretty consistently and that's all you can ask for.

We got some rain finally and maybe some around Tuesday again...we needed it as far as tracking goes, it's been dry in the woods...this will help.

I worked the young dogs today...we've got some real nice young prospects here in the yard...I can't wait to get them rolling in the woods, I think there's something special brewing...again...

I've been lucky enough to place some dogs with folks who appreciate them for talents other than coon hunting. One of those folks sent me a picture today that I'm proud to share with you Redbone folks who visit this thread.



The dog in the picture is Sula and she is a certified Search dog for land and water, in this case specializing in finding drowning victims. In this picture, there is a diver deep below the surface of the water holding substances that would represent scents given off by a drowning victim's body. When she smells those odors, she "locates"...so to speak, sounding off to signify that she has marked the scent.

I think it's a real credit to the breed that they are smart enough to be taught and to learn these kinds of skills and she has made a very special dog to her owner and to the folks she has helped with land and water searches.

Something different but a credit to our breed just the same.

I wanted to thank Tom for all his thought and dedication to this breed, and for taking the chance and allowing me to purchase Sula to train and work in Search and Rescue. Sula has a nose that continually amazes some of the best trainers and a work ethic that never quits...just what I need for a SAR dog. She is cross-certified for Trailing and Human Remains Detection on both land and water, which is a huge accomplishment for any SAR dog. Sula is only 6 and she has already made a huge impact on the lives of many people and has even been part of an international deployment to Costa Rica - I could not ask for a better dog! Rabble Rouser sure has passed on the best of the best to his offspring.

These dogs have an unbelievable drive and skill to hunt - Sula's quarry just walks on two legs instead of four and has no fur! Tom's commitment to the genetic lines in his breeding program is obvious and when I am ready for another Redbone, I know I will be going back to Tom and the T-Top lines.

Wow! Very interesting. She looks so good out there sounding off on the boat. A+ Tom.

We love our Lucy T-Top dog, she is becoming an excellent young coon dog. She has a very fun personality, and the most well kennel mannered coon hound I've had.

Jason and i went out last night and treed in a patch of multiflora rose couldn't hardly even get to the tree. Just about ripped our coats off trying to get there. Had to nock them down to get some photo's.

That's tough stuff to get through Carl, it's like our blackberry brush up around these cut over places...you can't get through it without a fight, it grows from the ground and seems to root again where it leans to the ground...nasty stuff no matter how you look at it.

Dave came out late last night and made a drop below the house...I could hear the dogs come treed and man oh man...they sounded good. I think he took Griz and Bo and if you're looking to find yourself tree dog stock...you should take a trip north and listen to those two hounds get on the wood...holy smokes...they sound good.

We'd like to wait on the ground cover to thin more but it's not really looking like another good frost for at least a couple of weeks although the mornings are down in the low 40s for the most part.

Chance and Lucky and Sally look good...even though you had to fight your way to get to them. Nice job of getting some decent pictures, I know how tough it is to try and make it work out when you can't hardly move around a tree.

When i was bow hunting to night i had a big coon come in at 6:00 and at 6:30 pm so they are out pretty early here. It's no wonder we hit cold tracks at 7 or 8 when we go out.

By day 6 of bow season I had already been out 7 times and worked 36 hours. I've been seeing coon at 8-9am, and coming out a little before 6. I've been seeing more coon than deer. Thinking maybe I should put my focus towards Ricky instead of Bambi for now?

I work till 6pm tonight, thinking of running home and going hunting right away, would only make sense...

Dave was out with Griz and Bo on Friday and Saturday nights...these are two really nice male dogs that go hunting good, track and tree coons with style and have really good dispositions to go with all the rest.

Last night was one of those nights that offered an opportunity to record a unique experience...


Dave's son Cruz couldn't resist getting into the action in a pretty cool way...this is one to remember...eh?

This time of year also offers chances to see God's great creation in different ways...cool mornings bring the mist rising off the bottom of the coulees...almost like a carpet you could walk across...




Griz and Bo have been getting more work as these fall days lead more towards the opening of the season. They are both hardening up and looking good. In another few weeks, they will be hard as nails and in shape to help us fill the freezer for another season. We'll get some video clips soon so you folks can see a couple of TREE DOGS!

We have some outstanding young prospects here also and they are gettinig work and are showing me that they are ready to go. EZ, Dagger (Turk), Douke and Gun are all ready for the timber and to learn how to be full blown coon dogs...it's gonna be fun this fall...

You always know where the coon went up, because that is where Griz will plant himself. Pictures like that kind of makes me miss the guy. He is definately a pure pleasure to hunt. Handles like a dream and getting wooded is his number 1 priority.

That's pretty cool Tim...I don't ever remember a time walking to a tree wherre we didn't find him up on the side of it just like that.

Folks might not know it but Rebel was a good lion hound and ran a lot of tough tracks and long days in the mountains of Montana. He was just a young dog the first time I saw a lion in a tree and he was under everyone I saw for those first few years.

Rebel would tree with all 4 feet on the tree sometimes...it was something to see.

I got some nice pictures from Dave G. the other day. He has Cherry and is hunting her along with his really nice young male out of Moose and Leinie. He calls his male Dozer and he reminds me a lot of his daddy in some of the pictures I've seen...

Way back in this post, I have a bunch of pictures of the Moose and Leinie litter as they started their training. In some of those pictures, you can see a real nice looking, dark colored male just sort of hanging around on the fringe of the action...that was Dozer. I told Dave that he could have him if he'd have the patience to simply wait for him to start showing interest and he did that...it's looking like his investment in time is going to pay him some big dividends by the end of this season.

I like Dozer, he's got a good attitude and a high voltage motor on him so once it all snaps into place and he matures, I think he's going to be something to reckon with.

Nice pup Dave and Cherry looks good too.

Tom, thanks for posting the pictures of the dogs, and the opportunity to be hunting both of these nice dogs. Cherry is a very nice female, she hunts good and has a lot of go power. Dozer is a work in progress.......it's like you said, once he fully understands what to do consistently, he will be a force to reckon with. I've been hunting them both pretty regularly, but Cherry has been getting solo nights also. Dozer has soooo much energy, he sometimes forgets what he's doing. It can be frustrating at times, but most of the time he's a bunch of fun. He will hunt with or without company, and will split off on his own. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention, he's got his daddy's mouth, LOUD!! The intensity he shows in the picture by himself, really represents how he is when he knows he has the meat.

My camera has been on the fritz, with a lot of the pictures turning out fuzzy, but I got it figured out now. This hide season should be a good one...

It sounds like it's going to be another frosty night so hopefully a few more leaves will hit the ground as well as this thick underbrush that seemed to blow up this year.

We've had our share of rain over these last few days but now a clearing trend with real cool overnight temps and mild days in the 60s...can't get much better than that...eh?

We'll see what kind of trouble we can get into these nice days and nights...it's close to the best time of year and I'm looking forward to it a lot.

I've told folks before that the hardest part of training a good young prospect is waiting for time to pass because regardless of how much promise a prospect shows, they still have to mature and grow into what they're going to eventually be...and that takes time. I know one thing for sure though...when I see prospects like Dozer, Gun, Dagger, Katie, Ez and all the rest, I know that T-Top is going to be represented very nicely for a long time to come...
