Last night

You didn't bother me Carl, I get a real kick out of that kind of call and it was a hoot to hear them treeing the way they were...they sounded real good.

I was in the woods for a little while this morning and the undergrowth is thinning in the low places but still pretty thick up high on these side hills where the frost hasn't reached yet. There was a lot of frost this morning on the lower slopes and it all helps to thin the brush.

Last night was a great night to be out and about with the cool temperature and clear sky and it sounded like the dogs did their job so it doesn't get much better than that.

Lookin' good

They sure look good Carl...that's a nice bunch of young dogs.

With the season so close it's good to see them starting to rev it up and look so serious about their business...it looks like you guys should have a fun season.

Well I was pretty pumped tonight. I took my Joe pup out for a solo hunt and he did a good job. Struk, ran and got treed with the meat. Not too bad for his second solo hunt. Man when they get like that it makes me want to hunt the hair off one. Hope he conmtinues to progress. Andy took Chick for a solo hunt as well and I havn't had a report. I called Tom to let him know how our hunt went. Took some pictures but none turned out very good.

Joe

Thanks for calling last night Jason...I get about as excited as you do when I hear about those good young prospects making another big step. Like I said before, it seems like they've been around forever but just young whipper snappers yet.

I've got a couple of good prospects here also and this season will make dogs out of them and I always love to look forward to that.

We'll see you guys in a couple of weeks...I'm sure looking forward to it.

Ace

T-Top Show-Time Coon Stopper ( Ace )
Took Ace out last night and treed a few coon Tom. I hadn't hunted much as my Wife and Mother have been sick. Also you know I have been building a nice Garage with an 8ft. by 36ft. porch on the back for you and me to sit and drank coffee when we get out of this work game. Dave

He sure looks good Dave, he's one of my favorites and I'm glad he's where he's at.

Yes sir...that garage is a good looking project Dave, you're doing it up right and sitting and having coffee sounds pretty darned good to me...especially if we can hear the youngsters chasing the dogs at dark...eh?

On the wood...

The little male we're going to call Cuz...what can I say? He's just 15 weeks old and he furred up like a big dog and was treeing hard today. He found that coon and the hair stood up on his back like he was mad and it wasn't long and he had talked himself into going face to face with a big coon and then sat and treed like he meant it.

Cuz is out of Yank and a female that shows Rat as her grand sire on one side and Pete as her grand sire on the other side....good stuff or what?

You'll hear the names of these pups again somewhere down the road.

This is Crazy Cuz...

There is nothing in the world that I like better than to see a for real "good prospect" and to have the opportunity to shape his or her future. Cuz is out of Yank and a grand daughter to Rat and Pete...he is a for real good prospect and not yet 5 months old. This is how it always starts just like it did for all the rest...there's a common factor time after time so don't overlook it...take advantage of it when you can.

Say hello to Maggie...

Maggie is out of Pastor Mike's Dual Grand Haze and is looking like she also is a for real prospect and if so and she continues like she has started, she's the kind of female that represents a real nice line cross back but also brings some top blood on her bottom side, going back to Razor. I like her...she's got a real submissive personality in the kennel and turns into something totally different when around a coon...I really like her so far.

Whatever happened to Maggie? This post is also from a year and a half ago.

Training

Yep...I love it when that happens Richard...the part about having a good young prospect develop...not the part about you waiting just a little too long...

Training isn't about "teaching" a dog anything...it's about showing them what you want them to chase and then giving them the opportunities to do it starting in a controlled environment and then leaving the rest up to them...sorry about that...I went to rambling there for a minute...

Anyway, we've got some real nice young hounds in the yard again and they're ready to go to the woods so it should be interesting once again to see how they shape up.

How about some pictures with names so that we can look back in a year or so and see where they started from.

Another nice shot of Cloud...

Notice Gun in these pictures, he's got the goods...He's the one without the collar...

Three of these males are out of Moose and Leinie. Cloud is in the green collar and he's out of Yank and Angel. Gun is out of Ace and Cherry and is one of the better looking young prospects I've seen at this age.

We let Gun tag along because he's willing to do it and is no trouble...nothing too much phases him. He just turned 4 months old .....One last word about Gun...he is by way of Ace and Cherry and represents the 6th generation going back to Rocky. , I'll say that he's going to make a good one...just like others from his line like Rocky, Rat, Rabble, Raven, Yank, Moose and Ace and all the rest.
I love this stuff...

I do too. This is another picture that I found from 10/10/2010, exactly one year ago. I assume that "Red Collar" is now Moe. What happened to "Cloud" and "Leather Collar"?

Hey Richard, Maggie is in Montana with Mark. She has a litter on the ground out of Boomer. A very nice looking litter at that! Check the post"T-Top pups out west"

Young dogs

The male called Cloud, I think is on the east coast and was tracking and treeing the last I heard. He's one I wish I would have put more time into and maybe kept him around...he was a good prospect out of a good cross (Yank and Angel) Anyway, where ever he is now, I hope he's getting a good chance to make a dog.

The red collar and leather collar were Joe and Moe and I think both are doing OK at this point and probably will both make good dogs after this fall and winter.

We'll all be hearing a lot about Gun in the next few months and into next spring...I'm hoping for some good pictures of him under a few lions this winter and I'm pretty sure he's got everything it takes to be a top hound for coons and maybe to carry on a line.

I'm planning on putting some good time on Griz and Bo for as long as we can and Dagger, Douke, EZ and Katie will be sharing time to develop as well as we can...all these dogs are absolute top prospects.

Season is right around the corner so we'll drag as many along as possible but at some point this fall...a few of these dogs will be available to someone who will promise to finish what we've started so...stay tuned.

Training pictures to come in the very near future...it's not often that I can say that it's too warm to train in mid October but the last couple of days have been in the mid 80s and that's no fun to work dogs in at this time of year.

Sure wished my knee would allow it and I would do some swapping with you. After I get my new knee for my birthday, I hope to be back at it again.

What the heck Tim...if we make it a couple more years, there'll be time to fix you up with something somewhere down the road. I'd say you'll have your hands full with that Griz and Sid pup and I'm real interested to see how all they all turn out because I think they're put together right.

Getting a new knee will probably be like getting a new lease on life...eh?

Good weekend

Dave and his older son Chase did some hunting this weekend, starting with our special youth hunt on Saturday and following with a squirrel hunt on Sunday morning.

By golly...he's a huntin' machine...
This is Chase and his first legal buck...

The next day a good squirrel hunt and a coal black squirrel is one to remember for sure...

It's funny...some folks can go near a life time and just not have any success hunting deer or hunting in general but this little guy has it pretty much figured out. I asked him if he got nervous watching that buck come in and he said he sure enough was. Dave said that he was aiming and aiming and then he'd wipe his sweaty hand on his pants and aim some more and then wipe it again...finally told him that it was now or never and boom...one shot to the neck and down he went.

Gotta love it when that happens...eh?

I call my little guy Double Rabble. He reminds me more of Griz everyday. lol Likes to bark and likes to play tag if he thinks you are going to catch him, otherwise he is in my face and jumping all over me. (Even dribbles a little when he gets excited. lol) He will have just turned 5 months when our season opens. He might get to tag along once in a while. My operation is Dec 5, so I have to get all the hunting in I can before then.
