TREE BLUE!!

Took Blue with Bo to Black Branch Swamp last night. Blue went with him when first cut but BO grabbed a gear I didn't know he had and got away from Blue so Blue came back to me. Bo got deep and started working a bad feeder track so I rode closer. He started locating over and over but couldn't quite lock it down right off. I started to him to get Blue closer to the Action. Blue went on ahead of me and by the time I got there Bo had settled and was blowing it down. Blue was running around in the area winding and checking trees and by the time I hooked BO to his tree, Blue had found him one he liked 40 feet away in the mud and water and he Locked it Down. I left him loose just to see how well he liked it and he Never Moved. A few minutes later I found the Coon up a Big Leafy Bay between them. Bunch of Swamp Bushes loaded with the Red Berries all around that the Coon had been feeding on. I left the Coon and got Bo and started out and called to Blue but he wasn't hearing me so I had to take Bo out of there a ways and go back and get Blue. He never budged until I drug him off the Tree. Got a long way to go before I can call him a Coon Hound but for a 6 month old PUP, your right MR. Ed, as Natural as you will ever see.

Blue

Heikki, he sure makes it a Joy to carry out at night. Still going to be a lot of miles put on the boots before he can be called Coonhound but your right, I'm going to have a lot of fun. I knew at 3 months old when he treed that drag with such Intensity and Hate that getting him to Tree wasn't going to be a problem and that I wouldn't have to stay close and hurry to the first few trees. But, treeing to quick could become a problem if I let it or encouraged him treeing very much. Last night I took Blue downriver in the Jet Boat to a couple of bucket feeders I have out. On the first one he locked it down on the tree the bucket was tied to. Small tree that I had already looked at Before I cut him so I knew there wasn't a coon up it. I didn't even cut my light on, just moved in, hooked him up, and got him away from there and recut him but he went back. I loaded him in the Boat and moved to the next one but instead of going straight in to it I cast him about 50 yards from it headed up a creek I knew from past experience that's the way most coons go when they hear me and the hounds coming. Blue hit a good track and moved it over 300 yards before being tricked by the coon swimming a big oxbow of the River. Dead, Deep Water with lots of surface grass and vines growing in there. I had stayed within a 100 yards and when I heard him out in the Big Water I went on in and got him out. I have killed a Gator out of that spot years ago and also didn't want him hung up in all that grass. He was some kind of upset with me for pulling him off his first, at night, wild coon track! Fought me and the Lead all the way back to the Boat. Fog was starting to form low over the River so I fired it up and we came on in. I spotted a sunken, buried canoe that I'm going back to dig out and get today. Hoping it's not busted up. Looked like an old aluminum Canoe from the 70's. Been on the bottom full of sand a Long Time.

MADE IT HOME

Mr. Jack, you will be proud of Blue and that cross you made. He is going to make a fine one. We made it in from Destin Florida yesterday evening and got everything unpacked and let the Pups play a while then I went to bed early. Saw I missed your call yesterday and I will give you a shout back today. BO and Blue wanted to go bad last night but I didn't have it in me. I talk to you today we will get us a hunt set up. Yes I did get that Canoe out but should have left it alone. It was busted bad on the side that was buried in the bottom of the River. Hunk of Junk. Never know though so I'm going to keep looking. Never know what I might find next. Glad you about over the Crud, talk to you soon.

BACK TO HUNTING

Picture of the Sunset in Destin Florida Friday Evening with a Dolphin on the left. Picture of my view from my first evening in a Deer stand this year here at the house and the results of that in the bottom picture. Deer had a Big Body but a small rack. Lot of Stuffed Smoked sausage. Took Bo and Blue hunting last night and they treed one but I got the Rhino stuck Bad in Black Branch Swamp and had to walk out and Beverly picked us up in the truck at the road. Will go back in there today and Winch it out. Probably going downriver in the boat tonight.

OLD BOOKS

Found this 1946 First Edition Book, " When The Dogs Bark Treed " and a magazine I had never heard of from June of 1961. Volume 1 Number 1. American Bluetick. I have been told it wasn't around very long and American Cooner took over. Got some Historic Men and Blues in this very first magazine devoted to the BLUES. Any of yaw remember it when it came out?
Me and Beverly took her Honda 4 wheeler with Winch to the swamp and got the Rhino out. It wasn't easy but we did get it without me having to take the Tractor and Winch back in there. Maybe Santa is tired of Winching me out on the Holidays and will bring me a Winch for my Ride, lol!

BLUE

Blue treed this Coon Monday night in Black Branch Swamp. He struck at over 250 yards and treed right at 400 and never missed a beat as I made my way to him. The Coon came out Full of Life at his feet and there was quite a Ruckus in the Swamp for a bit but BLUE WON. Got a few Battle Scars, But, like I always say, " You ain't lived if you don't have Scars. " He treed another down River last night after trailing it for over 300 yards then made another drop where he Scorched a Hot Track close to 500 yards into a Beaver Pond. Got him out of there then to the River and back again then back to the River where I caught him off it before he could swim the River. He was Flying on track. I am Amazed at this Pups Progress and what a Tree Dog he is, then to see how Phenomenal he performed on Track the past 2 nights. This Pup is FOR REAL. So far above Anything I have Ever fooled with that there is No Comparison. He is, " THE ONE. " STILL 6 MONTHs OLD.

Nice

He is a littermate to Kandy correct or am I wrong? She is a coon killing machine as well at 6 months old.
She hasn't opened on track yet but sure will get treed with the others and needs no help in putting a coon to sleep.

Steve, that pup sure sounds impressive. I bet ole Bo is sitting back thinking “If that pup keeps on going like he is, I’ll have way too much pen time alone”.

Blue

Elmo, Blue is a cousin to yours. He's off Bob, Bo's half brother. He's just 3 days older than Bo and Ann's pups. Tommy, you are right, Bo is already mad with me but he will go tomorrow night and every night over the next week or so. Blue ran a Swamp Rabbit tonight for a while. Moon isn't full but it sure is bright and the junk is stirring. Blue didn't want to stop and I had to go in after him and tackle him to get a lead on him. He was Not listening to me At All. So, while the moon is bright we going to work on the Come Here training with the collar in the yard and Bo will hunt at night. Let this Bright Moon get full and start going down and Blue comes when he's called then I will let him get after them again.

BOCEPHUS PUPS

Thanks Wayne. Hope all is well over your way and that your enjoying hunting now that we are cooling off some. Big squall line about to hit us now headed your way with COLD AIR behind it. Leaves are Falling like Rain. Love this time of year where we can find about every Coon the Hounds Tree. Bocephus Hounds are getting it done and Winning all over the Country. Heard he is Number 1 Reproducer this Month. I said 3 Years ago that this would happen and that he will go down in History as one of the Best, if not The Best Reproducer the Blues have ever had. Years from now he will show up on papers like JBS CHIEF. Him, One of his Sons or one of his Grandsons will be the First Blue Dog to Ever Win the UKC WORLD. It's coming, just wait and see. Take Care.

SNOW STORM IN THE DEEP SOUTH!!

We had Heavy Snow move in at Midnight last night and its still Snowing. Hard. We had 3 inches on the ground at daylight and have had about 3 more today. Biggest Snow I have ever seen. Lot of pictures coming later and over the next few days. I told Beverly I was cutting Blue before daylight and she said I was Crazy. I Geared up and took him behind the house in the Cypress Gully and he got on a Hot Track and Treed him Quick. Great Video of it also. He had the Coon laid out on that limb in center of picture. Years ago I called my Hunting Buddy, Mr. Frank Erwin, one night in April when it started a Rare Snow. Told him we had pictures of our Hounds in every kind of Conditions but Not Snow Pictures. He said he wasn't leaving the House, to take some for him, lol. I did then, and I did Now. Pictures later will show just what a Rare Event we Witnessed today in the DEEP SOUTH.

BO and BLUE

Ron I'm sure yaw will be getting Plenty of Snow soon for those kids to Sled Ride on.

Took Bo and Blue across the road from the House last night and cut them down the Cypress Slough. Blue struck first and was moving it on out. I looked at Garmin and Bo was deeper and to the right. He started opening and wasn't long and he treed. Blue kept working his track and it was headed in Bo's direction, and sure enough it was the same Coon. Blue treed with BO. I went in and found it and knocked it out to them. Blue did good on that track and even when BO treed he didn't pick up and just go cover. He kept working the track and even mad a lose in some water but picked it up and went with it to the tree. LOTS of Independence in this Pup. Headed down River in the Boat Tonight. Cutting Blue on one side of the River and Bo on the other. See how it works out.

BLUE

Took BLUE down river tonight on the boat. Cut him down a Spring Fed Creek and he got gone and got struck pretty quick. He's starting to figure out that good tracks aren't always close. I see the Hustle coming out in him and I think with regular hunting over the next month he will be getting deep to get struck if he has to. Tonight he struck at 150 and treed at over 300. When BLUE trees, even though he's only 7 months old, you don't have to hurry. He ain't going no where. Longer he's there, Harder he Trees. Coon was in a medium size oak that was a Coon Hotel of thick vines almost all the way to the top. We left him to run again.

American Bluetick

Steve I have some copies of those magazines as well as many others from the 40's and 50's. I had never heard of the book. If I make it out to the Winter Classic this year it would be nice to take a look at that book.

Many of the older magazines are not in great shape but I'm trying to put all of them in these plastic storage tubs so they do not get any worse.

Enjoy your post. Good luck CW

SURGERY

Thanks CW. I love reading the Old Books and Magazines. That type of Writing Style is Long Gone due to Political Correctness and Animal Activists.
Thanks Gary.

I will not have any more Hunting Stories and Adventures for a couple Months. You all know I had been having Back Trouble and had some Injections. Was doing better but still having Spasms so had 2 more Injections the 2nd of October. Didn't do any good and I started getting Weaker, Dizzy, Nausea, Headaches, Clumsy, Falling Down While Hunting, ect. When I got the 2nd round of injections, the DR doing them came in while I was reaching back over my shoulder rubbing Spasms between my shoulder blades. He said they weren't coming from the Back, I had C-SPINE Troubles and needed an MRI. So the end of November I got it. A week ago Monday I went and had Nerve Conduction Study done and EMG. They shocked me on both sides like I was a Possum Tree'er and said I had Severe Carpal Tunnel in Both Hands. Stuck long needles in my Muscles of my Hands, Arms and Shoulders in Lots of places and moved the Needle around once Engaged. It gave out readings on a monitor of what my Nerves were doing coming from base of my neck and Spine. They also give me a copy of the MRI Report even though I wasn't to see the Neurosurgeon until yesterday. Even as Dumb as I am I knew it was Bad News. C-3/4 and C-4/5 are Bulging and have Multiple Layers with Bone Spurs and my Spinal Canal was almost Choked Off. I left there Stunned and about ready to break down and got up in my Truck and a Man was sitting in his vehicle beside me motioning for me to let my window down so I did. He asked if I was a Coon Hunter because he saw my Box in the back of the truck. I told him yes I was. So was he, though he said he don't hunt much anymore because of all the back and neck surgeries. Also Open Heart Surgery. Ten, that's right, 10 Surgeries! All of a sudden I quit feeling sorry for myself as I realized GOD had placed this Man in this spot just when I needed a reminder when you think you got it Bad, Look Around, Other Folks have it Worse. I wish I could remember his name but I can't. I can remember he is friends with a guy named, JT or JD that had a dog named TOM years ago and Won the World Hunt. English Dog. Well, yesterday we saw the Neurosurgeon and I have to have Emergency Neck Surgery Now. They trying to get it set up for Tuesday and will also do Surgery on one hand at the same time. He said it had been going on for years and my Body has been Acclimating to it but can't do anymore. The Disc and Bone Spurs have my Spinal Canal almost Choked Off and he said a fall the wrong way or a little fender bender would leave me in a Wheel Chair Paralyzed the rest of my life. I fell 5 times the other night hunting Blue. He said I was to not do anything and to look straight ahead or down. Not to look to the side, back or up. Said it could finish restricting Spinal Fluid Movement. Waiting to hear back now if its setup for Tuesday or what day. God is in my Heart and will Guide the Surgeons Hands so I will face this with No Fear, But with Complete Faith. Looking forward to recovering in a few months and living a better life with much less Pain.
