I don't doubt you Aaron...but I would have liked to see her face when you rolled that big ol' bad boy out and started clearing a spot on that wall

It was a good time...always is!

Up top

Deer hunting is just around the corner so we'll be taking some nights off leading up to the weekend and through next week.

We'll hope the weather holds going into and through December so that we can continue what is a good season so far this year.

Good luck to everyone who hunts Wisconsin deer this coming weekend and to everyone enjoying the coon season around the country.

Good time

It looks like you guys had a great time Buck...nice pictures as usual and a great night to boot.

I'm just gearing up to hit the deer stand and it's a pretty nice morning so far, for this time of the year anyway. There's a little snow or rain coming later in the day but it should be nice overall as far as the temperature goes...mid 40s through mid afternoon anyway and then low 20s overnight.

Anyway, it's good to see you guys are able to get some good hunting time in and the dogs look great.

Pictures

Great pictures Jason...I wish I was there enjoying all that action.

Buck must be feeling better, I know it was no fun trying to keep the dogs in the woods when he wasn't feeling so good. If he can make it up those steep mountain sides, then these bluffs of Wisconsin shouldn't be any trouble at all...eh?

It's good to see that Richard made the trip and got to partake of all that good hunting...hopefully those steep climbs didn't do him in.

We're hoping the weather holds up here so that we can still get some good nights in after deer hunting is over...never know around here...it can change fast and stay in the blink of an eye.

Tom, how old is Gun now? Aaron, just wait until you have to move that coon hide and she can see the large greasy spot that it leaves on the wall. You can't paint over it either.

Gun was born in June of last year so he'll be a year and a half old now in December. We'll hope to put them in the woods more this year yet but he's got a great start and I believe will see the hunts in the spring. He's got a real good foundation Richard and lots of good traits coming through in him that we like a lot. There's another one waiting in the wings that is showing lots of good attributes also and I'll have a better feel for him before the snow flies...if it doesn't fly too soon that is

That hide is well tanned and backed with a double felt backing...it looks real good and won't cause any problems...other than taking up a big bit of wall space. I've got a big coon on the wall like that and this one was probably 8-10" longer...he was a real hog and a great story behind it too.

I guess that I am not as "professional" as y'all. I just skinned mine and nailed him up on the wall. You do know that Christmas is coming up pretty soon don't you? I think that I have been real "nice" this year.

Well, Buck got-er-dun again last night. He made Tom Tom a Nt Ch as a one yr old with one day to spare. Now there is a guy that knows how to stick to a plan. I guess that the next step is to make him a Gr Nt as a 2 yr old.

Tom Tom

With a name like Tom...had to git-er-done!

I'm glad to hear it Richard...Tom is barely past the "stupid" phase as a one year old hound...his best days are yet to come, based off my experiences anyway...

It's always nice to see the "plan" come together and to see these nice young hounds taking another step in the right direction. Tom may have some to learn yet...just like this Tom...but he's got a good foundation and some real good woods time to build on so now, it's only Father Time that will dicate what he's going to be in the end...eh?

There are lots of potentially good crosses made between similar, and sometimes, different bloodlines but then, there are crosses made that sometimes dictate what the next great bloodlines are going to be...Sally is part of all that as is Rabble Rouser and now Haze...it's kind of fun to watch it all fall into place.

And it is truly mind boggling to think about what it took to arrive at Old Zack, Bomber, Rusty, Rat, Go Man Sam, Timber Jack, Hunting Hollow Major and Coffman's Little Joe. I would not even attempt to try to name all of the true Redbone men that worked to put Tom's pedigree together. It would be too high a number for me to count.

But, the work has just started. It is only a beginning. I have been told, "just stick to the plan" and "the best is yet to come".

That's right Richard...it's a process...not an event. If it was that easy where success was instantaneous, what fun would this be? What would we learn? What enjoyment would there be in any of it?

What is great today can sometimes, be long forgotten before another so great comes along but if we hold true to what works...sometimes "great" can be just around the corner...again...and again...

Congrats Richard and Buck. It's impressive to see them young ones win often and early.

I went after momma-ceta last night. I figured it was the pefect night. Cool out and a slight wind from the north. Walked JJ down to the spot and to my surprise the corn was still up. There's a monster hole in this red oak. So I walked her there and cast her into the corn. Took a few minutes before she struck. The chase was on and it was a big one. I could hear it crashing thru the corn. I stood at the tree with my light on because one time she beat her to the den. The chase went from one end to the other end of the corn. At one time they were with in 20 yards of the tree. They finally shot out of the corn down into the marsh they went. Garmin showed 400 yards and moving. I hung tight at the den. I heard her throw a long wicked locate. Then rolled it over into a chop. She chops if she can see it. She was 570 yards out. I headed in to her. I get to her and I could see it was a big one. Easy 40' shot . She was in a small tree. Down she came. Cart wheeling off the limbs. Lands with a big thud. JJ dove on her.. I walked in and it wasn't momma-ceta. 30 pound bore. She still lives. Next will be the island when the river is iced over..
Scott

Gun

Gun and Hussler are mates and EZ is a female mate to both of them and she is also turning it on in the woods. I get regular reports on her from a good young man that I let hunt her and he says that she is opening up some eyes around his neck of the woods. She has a male mouth, opens quick on the ground, locates quick and is an intense tree dog. She'll pile on a coon and do her share also and this is honestly her first year in the woods including the times that Scott put her out with JJ and his other dogs.

Dave came out tonight and loaded up a couple of dogs and headed out. It's going to get down into the upper teens tonight so a challenging environment for them to get back into shape with but...I'd bet they'll bring home the meat again.

If Woofter agrees, we'll make the Ace and Cherry cross again...if there's anything I've learned it's that you have to make those good crosses more than once...or sometimes you lose the opportunity to do it again. She's in heat right now but nearly done so she'll get some more good woods time yet this fall and winter as the weather allows but in the spring or mid summer next year, we're going to try and get it done.

It's like I said before Richard, I've got a couple good prospects here in the yard and if the second one comes on like I expect he will...you just never know how things might play out yet before spring comes along. Everyone needs to have a project to work on...heck...that's part of the "plan" and we gotta stick to it...eh?

Litter

Hey Dave, that was a nice litter out of Ace and Cherry...those kinds of crosses don't come along every day and we're sure going to make it work again when spring rolls around. It's sure good to see that Link is getting a chance and he seems to be a good looker too.

Dave came out earlier in the week and took Yank and Gun to the woods and I see he had two nice coons out by the shed in the morning. It got down into the teens overnight so it was tough going but they made a den and then a couple of other trees so a pretty nice night considering. It's tough when the ground changes to frozen like this, it usually takes a few nights out in those conditions before they get back into the swing of it.

Dave and his younger son Cruz showed up again tonight and loaded up Yan, Griz and Gun...glutton for punishment I guess. He was going to take a bunch of kids hunting tonight before the snow moves in later on tonight or early morning so we'll see what tomorrow brings as far as more coons piled up in the shed...or not...

If we get what they're predicting for snow, 5-8", we'll probably see it stay for good because next week we're only supposed to get into the low to mid 20s for highs and low teens for lows and that means the snow stays. Oh well, if it doesn't pile up any more than that, we can still get out and have a few good hunts so we'll hope for the best.

I took Chance and Chief out for one drop. Since Chance came out of heat so she has not been out for a while. They hit a track cold trailed and went up a ridge and treed in den.
