Tramp

Had something similar happen to Banjo at Bluetick Days a couple of years ago. He had gotten in and got treed and all of a sudden he stopped and came in to us at another dogs tree. He acted like someone had just kicked his butt. He did not want to go out after that. Later on the guide said that area was full of Coyotes. Hunted him when I got home and he was just fine. Who knows what all happens in the woods at night when you can't see for yourself what is taking place. Hope he is fine. Sounds like a real nice dog.

Thank you for the information Scott, and after you mentioned the coyotes, I remembered I had seen a big coyote in the vicinity of where he treed while I was on my way in there to hunt. I never heard a fight or anything like that, but I know Tramp and If he seen a coyote coming after him. He left there in a hurry. I'm not positive that that was what happened, but its the only thing I can figure out. Thanks Scott

"PR" Smokey River Blue Tramp 11

Last night I took tramp to a club hunt at a club in Brookhaven, Ms. To let him run and tree with strange dogs. After the ordeal he had Friday night. He needed that anyway because he don't get to hunt with strange dogs very much, because I usually hunt by myself. We made one tree and he looked good. I need to see now how he will do hunting and treeing alone. We'll check that out about Monday night.

TRAMP and BO

MR. Jack I really enjoyed our hunt last night. This is video of them on 3rd tree we made. TRAMP is a real nice young hound I enjoyed getting to see him go. Looking forward to our next adventure with these two hounds. Take Care and Good Hunting!

TRAMP and BO

This is video from last night same tree but from a distance. I was shining the tree and they were treeing pretty good. I always like listening to the hounds better from a little distance than right up on them.

Tramp & Gin

Took Tramp and Gin out last night for a short run. They went in about 275 yrds and Tramp just fell Treed. I listened a few minutes to see if Gin was going to tree with him. The Garmin said she was to the right of him, but she hadn't opened. I went around to get closer to them. When I got to about a hundred yrds of them I stopped and Tramp was still treeing good and Gin was trailing about a hundred yrds to the right of him. I got my rifle and headed to Tramp. After I got there and leashed Tramp, Gin came in and I leashed her. I started Looking for the coon. As I was looking I found a coon, but he was about 2 trees over from the one Tramp was treed up. I told Tramp that I guess he had missed that one, but I kept looking and finally found the one up Tramps tree. I think I saw two up the tree he was treed up. I had to be careful I didn't want to do like
Steve and get two with one shot. LOL Not much chance of that with me, I'm Lucky to get one. I let Tramp and Gin tousle with the coon for a little bit and then leashed them up and headed for the 4-wheeler. I was going to go on down and make another drop, but decided to call it a nite. I had been hunting pretty hard lately and decided to give them and me a break so we called it a nite.-------Wed. 9-24-14

Tramp & Shadow

Jeremy and I traveled to Brookhaven, Ms. last night to Their UKC Hunt and Show. We visited with several old friends and made some new ones. We entered Shadow in the show and he won Best Of Show. We entered them both in the nite hunt and I won 1st place with Tramp. This gives them both a best of Show and both a 1st place in the nite hunt. We are both looking forward to going to the BBCHA Fall Round-up in Flora, Ill. Next week.

Jack, did you get the pic. of Smokey River Spud?? If you haven't got it by now, I will need to send another one. I had them enlarged, and they turned out good. The Tramp male sure resembles old Tramp. Sounds like you have some good ones coming on. I was coming to the Round-Up next week, but I have a speaking engagement. Maybe next time. Let me know, and I'll get another one out asap!! Take care!!!

Tramp

Took Tramp out for a run last night which was Sat. nite. 1st drop, he left went in about 400 yrds and opened a couple of times. and I could see on the garmin he was steady getting deeper. I went around to get closer, but he was still getting deeper and he was still about 400 yrds from me. I listened and he opened again a couple more times but I could tell as cold as the track was and as dry as it is that he probably wasn't going to be able to do anything with it. I waited awhile to make sure and after he didn't open for about 15 min. I called him in. We loaded up and went to the river. As I was in, When I got to about a 100 yrds from where I was going to make my next drop. Trap started to whine a little and I knew that he smelled a coon. I went on in to where I was going to turn loose. When I unleashed him he took off back to where he had smelled the coon. It was a good track and he brought it to about 30 yrds of me and passed and went on down the branch. He went on down the branch for about 100 yrds and locked up treed. I got the rifle and started to him. I didn't know where he was over the Coyote deal or not. I had been working with him on it with other dogs, but this would tell me wheather I had done the right thing or not. I guess I did for he never came off the tree or missed a bark. That brought a sigh of relief from me. He was treed up a large oak and there were several coons up it. They all looked like grown coons so I knocked 1 out to him. After tramp finished him we loaded up and moved on down the swamp. Third drop. He went in about 75 yrds and just treed. I went to him. He was treed up a small tree with a lot of limbs and leaves and vines in it. I couldn't find the coon at first, but I came in and shook a vine and he looked at me. I left him to run again. We went back to the 4-wheeler, loaded up and called it a night.--Sat. nite---9-27-14

Tramp

Took Tramp out for a warm-up hunt Monday night before heading to the fall round-up Wednesday. He went in about 200 yrds and struck a pretty good track, mover it on down the slough about another 150 yrds and treed. I listened to him tree for a few minutes and grabed my rifle and went to him. He was treed up a large water oak about 10 yrds out in the slough. Where is the camera when you need it, at the house of course. I leashed Tramp and walked out away from the tree a little to where I could see and the coon was about 30 ft. up out on the end of a limb looking at me with both eyes. My rifle was off again, but about the 4th shot I hit pretty close to him. I seen him when he put both front feet over his eyes. I guess that was his way of telling me that he didn't want to die, and after that I didn't have the heart to shoot anymore, so I walked in and got Tramp and we left that one to run again. Monday night-9-29-14

Fall Round-up

What a week-end. We had all kinds of weather. Thursday night it rained. I think someone said we got 5 inches in about 2 t0 3 hours and I think at least 3 of those inches fell on me and my cast. I think Scott and Mike will agree with that. I think the coons were moving in all that rain Thursday night, but according to the scores the weather change had them slowed down Friday and Saturday night. I didn't win anything with Tramp, but he did a good job each nite. Jeremy and Shadow won 3rd Place Friday nite. I was sure proud of them two, but I always am regardless of where they win or not. This win gave Shadow a First and third so he don't like much being a Nite Champion. I really enjoyed myself at the Fall Round-up. I got to see some of my old friends and meet a lot of new ones. My good friend Rod Rose showed up. If Mr. Harry Darby Had been there that would have been something. Any of you that don't know these two, If you ever get the chance to meet, visit and hunt with them, the do so you will enjoy every minute of it. Rod still has a couple of Flaws in his life before becoming a complete preacher, but Harry and I are going to stay on him until we completely get him straitened out even if we have to go to his church and talk to his congregation. LOL You know sometimes I wonder why I love this sport of ours so much. The Lord, family, good friends and Bluetick coonhounds in that order. You cant beat it. Good hunting---------Jack

Fall Roundup

Jack,
I finally got everything dried out. It was surely the wettest weather I ever hunted in but we treed a few anyway. We have lost a lot more leaves here in the last week. I am going to give Creek a night off and we are going to hit it again tomorrow. Glad you made it home safe and hope we meet again in the future.
Take Care,
Scott

Gin

I had to lay Tramp up for a week or so after coming back from the Fall Round-up. He's having some trouble with his tonsils, but that's ok he probably needs a little rest anyway. That will give me a chance to get Gin out for a few nights. I took Gin out for a run last night. 1st drop she went in about 400 yrds. The Garmin said she was strait south, but she just come treed in there and she was almost due west. I calibrated it and got it strait. I went back down the woods road to get even with her. I listened to her and she was still treeing hard. I got my backtracker out, but I guess because of all the trees I could not get it to pick up, so I got my compass out an I thought I had it set, but I guess I didn't. I grabbed my rifle and started to her. She was about 200 yrds in from where the 4-wheeler was. When I got to her she was still treeing good. She was treed up a medium sized Water Oak. I leashed her and petted her up a little and started looking for the coon. It didn't take long until I found him sitting almost in the top. I still hadn't sighted my scope in so I shot several times before connecting, but finally got him out and he was a big one and ready to fight. Gin did her best with him, but he was just too big for her so I had to help her some. She finally finished him. I petted her up some and we started toward the 4-wheeler. You remember earlier I told you I thought I had my compass set. I didn't we came out about a mile from the 4-wheeler. When we got back to the 4-wheeler we moved on down to the river. I turned her down a branch and she went in about 100 yrds and made a circle and came back without a bark. We loaded up and went on down a ways and cast her again. She went in a ways and just come treed again. I went to her and she was treed up a small oak that was loaded with vines that went into bigger trees and it was like a canopy in there, I looked and shook some vines. He was probably therebut I couldn't find him. I petted her up a little and we went back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Shadow

Thanks Steve, This win gives Shadow a 1st and 3rd so he just likes a 3rd or better to finish to Nite Ch. and I think he just likes a Best Of Breed to be a bench Ch.. We will Have to get togeather again before too long and go hunting again. I think i saw where you said that you was going to put Bo in some of the nite hunts. I will probably see you around at some of them and especially the State Hunt. Take care Steve and good luck with Bo.

I mailed your pictures of Smokey River Spud, and the PO told me they should arrive Tuesday. I'm sorry it is taking so long. I mailed them a while back, and don't know what happened. Let me know if you do not have them by Tues or Wed. Thanks.

Gin

I took Gin out for a short run. I been giving her some work while Tramp is laid up. I turned her up an ole Dry slough bed. This is one of the last sloughs to dry up around here, and right now it is dry as a bone. In wet weather its usually anywhere from knee deep to waist deep. Until the river gets out of its banks and then it may be 20 feet in there. It was real pretty in there tonight with those big cypress trees out in there where water normally stands but now its dry. Let me get back to my hunt. Gin left and went in about 200 yrds and struck a real cold track. I was watching her on the garmin the track was so cold that she was opening very little on the ground. She was checking trees and every now and then she would locate and move on. She worked it for about 30 min. and then she found what she was looking for and she loaded up. I listened to her tree for a few min. and got the rifle and went to her. She was treed up one of the biggest oak trees in the swamp and the only one around there that didn't have a vine in it. I shined for a while, but there were other big trees around it and there were only a couple of spots that I could only see a small portion of the tree. After a while I leashed up Gin and told her we would run that one another night. We headed back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

You know I have roamed these sloughs, Rivers and swamps around here all of my life and I have never seen many snakes. I might see a couple Rattle Snakes a year, But I have Killed 4 in the last month and 3 of them were right close to where I hunt. Me and a friend was clearing some land to make a deer plot a little larger and killed 3 more in the same vicinity. 3 of these just happened to be crossing an ole woods road as I passed through. In the last month I've seen more Rattle Snakes than I have coons or deer. I've never worried about Snakes before, but after seeing that many and most of them just crossing a road makes you wonder how many more of them is out there crawling around in the swamp. It will make you want cooler weather to get here quicker. Happy Trails
