Back up for Drifter

John Monroe of Finley River fame has built his entire kennel around drifters blood.
That speaks volumes.

John Monroe has not one but 2 studs bred similar to drifter and they are reproducing as good or better than anything he's ever promoted, those are his words not mine and he's owned a few decent dogs!

Last litter from Drifter ever

If you yall haven't heard, Drifter is no longer alive. I was fortunate enough to meet Dennis and get a pup out of the last litter Drifter will ever produce. Dennis kept a pup as well. He gave me this pup as long as I promised to put it in some hunts. I have never comp. hunted before so this should be an adventure. Luckily Dennis is my neighbor and I am sure we will be hunting these two young dogs together. I hunted behind Drifter one time and he was the only one of 4 dogs to tree a coon that night. I must say, Dennis is a true stand up man that walks what he talks. R.I.P. Triple M Drifter!

This pup was a cross of Drifter and Stylish Dixie. Anybody know of her pedigree?

Glen young of Arkansas owned the Black River Mike that these dogs go back to. He was out of Radar and Grimes Banjo Rosie. She went back to dogs Glen had through the years. He developed a fungus in his nose. He gave Mike to Don Risley and Phil Johnson. They took him and had surgery done and they removed the I guess what would be filters on one side of his nose. I am guessing in 1983 or 1984 Phil ran him through the hunts. In less than one year nothing to Grand Nite Champion after that surgery. As a pup he had gotten run over and poisoned and still lived. In the summer of 1986 my brother bought Mike. He was cut dog smart. He had all the grit in the world. He hunted hard and if you were not serious about hunting you had better not turn him loose. He was one of the truly great tree dogs. If you could barely hear him you had a helluva walk as he had a ringing chop that carried for miles. 1989 we we qualified Mike for the world in June. Shortly after that he started getting hot and laying down at the trees but would never quit treeing. He had a blockage in his heart. We tried him at zones and autumn oaks and both hunts Kevin withdrew him with the lead. I truly miss that old hound

Wow. Thanks for the update.

I knew about Mike when he was winning. Radar, Mike's dad to this day was the best stud dog I ever saw or bred to. He would dominate anything he was bred to.
I bred to him twice and they were the best crosses I ever made.
Ole Mike is in these dogs pedigrees more times than you can count.
Again. Thx for the info. I hunted and showed against Kayo back in the day. Tough competitor. Super nice guy.

Glenn Young of Knobel, Arkansas can really give an in depth insight to the dogs way back in there. Phil Johnson owned Mike when Terry Ellis bred the Go Go female the Sid dog was out of. Phil in the early eighties was hot in the coonhound world. He won the ACHA little world hunt with Rutherford’s Kate. He bred Kate to Hillbilly MAC, Rock River Ring, and Redeagle Dick. He had her booked to Spring Creek Radar. If memory serves correctly he was in Arkansas at Glenn’s hunting before going to Billy Stinsons to breed to Radar. He got Kate out and Radar would not mess with her. Phil pulled Mike out of the box and bred her. That is were the Dryfork Ratchet dog came from. He placed 4th in the 1989 world hunt. For anyone interested in knowing the history of this bunch of dogs Glenn and Phil know about the ones way back there. I never met Randy Singleton but his footprint is all over these dogs. Back around 1992 Marty Moran brought the Fat Lady Sing dog over to breed back to Mike. He got no pups as Mikes sperm count was low as he was 12 or so at this time. These dogs are way back in there and some might say have no effect on these dogs today. Maybe they do or don’t. I haven’t hunted with them. With the way Randy kept the blood brought back to Sid I have a feeling they do. The great reproduces show through the generations.

Man what a small world.

The first time I bred to Radar, Phil was there with Kate. Billy Stinson was so excited to breed her. Phil got there a little before us. We went and got a room because we wanted to hunt with some young dogs off Radar. Billy came and picked us up and bought us a steak and took us hunting with Bobby and Banjo. I've never seen two faster, louder coonhounds before or since.

I remember Phil as a tall lanky fellow. Real nice guy.

We bred to Radar the next day. Phil left a few hours after we first got there. I don't remember Billy saying anything about not getting them bred. We got pups and the mom got milk fever. We raised 3 bad news young dogs.
Randy runs an ad in the back of the cooner. He line bred those dogs off Mike and him and John Monroe have studs off that line. They produce hounds that are natural.

I've been breeding Walkers for almost 40 years.

This line of dogs are DNA'd in such a way because of how they line bred them that they are not only smart, easy to train, but they produce top pups generation after generation. There's not but a handful of real breeders left. Just breeding two dogs together doesn't make anyone a breeder. Glen is still a coonhunter legend over here with me and a couple of my older buddies. We are a dying breed.

Randy and a friend or two of his

Kept line breeding those hounds doing grand daughter to grand father and neice/ nephew crosses and developed a pure bred reproducer.
Glad they stuck with it.
They were and are very loud hounds that are pretty natural and most born straight if trained right.

Mike was treeing his own coon at six months. He was straight and his pups were straight. I had pups out of him that would go by deer to go hunting. We lived in the white tail capital of the world. Of the pups I had out of him I only had one that would mess with em. After three applications with a collar he was stone cold broke of em. At the time Glenn broke mike he had a dog six months younger by the name of Smiths Ohio Rock. Mike one year old and hunting rock with him. Mike was his check dog. Rick was sold and in 1986 Creed Smith owned and placed him in the UKC world hunt second behind PAC Man

Man. You've been around. That sounds like what

I've seen and heard about from Drifters pups and Randy's and John Monroe pups from his Mike bred dogs. Mike is 6 to 7 generations from these dogs. That proves if you know what dog to line breed off of, you can have the same traits generations later. I've had pups from 10 generations that have the same Characteristics as my first couple of crosses. All because I did thought out line breeding.

Me and Dennis have a male directly off of drifter we are pushing here in Missouri. He is off his last cross and has been a consistent winner around here. I will be pushing him in pkc hunts. He is the right type I have seen him slam them when they are moving and cold trail and even lay them up when they ain’t moving. He is by far the best dog I have ever turned lose. We have a stud add for him when I figure out how I’ll post it on this thread but I’ll also make his own stud page on here, Grandnite triple m’s trooper
