Pups

Hey Tim, it looks like those Rebel pups are really getting with the program. I know that those two females that Pastor Mike is working with, have great potential and it sure looks like you're going to have your hands full with those pups. I like them to show good interest in a coon before I move them forward with the program and those pups are exactly how I like to see them.

I got pretty much the same reaction from these pups I'm working with but they haven't seen a live coon yet, they're just getting fired up on a carcass or drag at this point. They'll see a live coon pretty quick and if the reaction is the same, I'll be moving them forward because they sure act like they're ready for it.

I see some nice young hounds being worked with out of Haze, Moose and Spook, Rebel, Ace Yank and other really nice hounds. Moving our breed forward requires that we have put good male and female dogs together and that their pups get an honest opportunity to show what they can do.

When making a choice on what male to breed to or where to go to get a pup with good potential, people need to look at the foundation that these crosses came from and the history of success for those pups coming from those crosses. I am seeing a lot of these pups turning out or at least showing that they have the desire to learn and the ability to move forward towards becoming top hounds for both pleasure and competition hunters.

I enjoy seeing these pups move forward and I appreciate the effort that folks are putting into them...it doesn't happen by itself, it takes some effort. It's looking again like we'll have a fun next couple of years watching some really nice pups turning into really nice hounds.

Tom

Well, finally got the World behind me and have several local hunts coming up in the next month. Griz thinks he has been couped up long enough. He is really restless.

Good think you got that knee repaired Tim...I'm thinkin' Griz will have a fire burning that first night out

It's that time of year when a dog can work the way they're supposed to work so I hope you have a good run with him up until season opens.

I did fine. Really, everything went fine. I spent a lot of time cheering on the red dogs. Pulled out of Shreveport as soon as the final round was complete and got home around 4 in the afternoon. Sure slept good that night. lol

Hunt

Dave brought the boys out tonight and we made one drop with Yank and Dagger. Yank is a nice hound and has learned to handle all kinds of different conditions and still come up with the coon.

It is drier than heck around here with absolutely no moisture in the ground at all. Dust kicks up when you walk and even the grass crunches underfoot. There is no growth left in the woods since we've had several hard frosts and at least two hard freezes.

Yank struck a track tonight along a spring bed but when the track went up out of there and into a corn field, it was tough going. He kept plugging away and ended up about 800 yards away treed with the meat. Dagger dig his best to hang and I'll give him credit for sticking to the track as much as he could before he finally gave in and went to Yank. He located and treed like a champ and they sounded real good...on the wood...

Yank...

Yank and Dagger..

Dagger...

Dagger gets up on the tree a lot but the only decent picture I got of him was while on the ground. Yank never gets up on the wood, he just plants himself and trees at the base of the tree.

Yank is a nice coonhound that has gotten better with age. He has a lot of sense and handles the way a dog should. Don't overlook him in your breeding programs, he has a lot to offer and will turn you out some coon dogs along with your good females.

Dagger is going to make it. This will be his year where he gets lots of reps when we go. He will spend some good time with Yank and Gun will make lots of trips alone this fall. We're looking forward to a good season and hope to share a good bit of it with you all.

Congratulations Tim...looks like Griz took full advantage of the rest while you were at the World Hunt...eh? I thought maybe he'd be so fired up that he'd cross a big river or two when he got out but...looks like he found a tree with a coon in it somewhere in between.

It's good work Tim, finishing a hound to Dual Gr. Ch. is a nice accomplishment so I hope he keeps giving it a good go and that he puts you in a position to get it done.

Our season will be opening in another 2-3 weeks and we have a ways to go yet to get the dogs hardended up but...we're making progress.

Thanks!! Pastor Mike, there may not be any left by the 27th. I think that Mr Ruger will be coming to town on the 15th. Rex said that he sure would like to see Gun hunt one night.

Season

We're looking forward to seeing all you guys. We should have at least a couple of pounds of fat wore off Dave...I mean the dogs...before that time. Yank is kind of fat but he gets it done even now so if we can get him in shape, we'll be able to keep you guys in coons. Gun is going to be ready to go...and Dagger isn't looking too bad either..he just needs woods time to learn his business. He loads up on a tree as good as any already, he's just a baby though when it comes to experience...I like him...I think he's going to make a real dog by the end of this season...for sure...

There is a big change in the weather coming and the highs are going to be 20 degrees cooler than they have been the last week or so. Overnight should be getting down into the mid to upper 20s for several nights so the leaves should start falling even faster than they have already...good stuff...it's going to be a good season...we've been saving up some coons so that we can slam them those first few weeks. Dave and I might have a pretty good dent in the population by the time you all get here...but we'll be sure to save a few right here around the buildings

Squirrels first night 3 weeks ago. Wake me up when we go go..

She's just a dream to work with. Already leash broke. Sits and waits to be loaded. Sits on the tailgate to get belled up. Walks right in the box. Not gun shy. Flat out disappears with the other dogs and lets me know when she's lost. LOL
Booming mouth on her.
Loves going to the flea market to get some loving and alot of it.

Vid. from tonight.

Pup

Her mates are getting after it too Scott but not in the woods yet. You gotta love it when there's no fear in those little rascals...eh?

It's all good when they're willing to take off and try and hang with the big dogs...it won't be long and her legs will be long enough to actually keep up and then she'll be up front on some of those events...and it won't be long is what I'm guessing.

You know that I love it when they're easy to get along with, both dog and people social...it's going to be fun to watch.

I kept the male and one female and they're already intense by nature...they're willing to dive right in there between the legs of the big dogs...no fear...easy to get along with...all good!

They'll be 5 months old on October 21.

Tom, here are a couple more that you can start watching the progress of. One is a 6 mos old grandpup and the other is an 8 mos old great-grandpup of Rabble. Does that make you feel old?

Yep...it does! I've got a few like that here in the yard and it's hard to believe that so many years have passed...but I enjoy it just the same as always...

I can name old "MOOSE" that's for sure...not sure about the others Buck but I can see for sure that they're all getting with the program.

The old boy looks good Buck...he's enjoying it and it's all over his face...I'll bet there was a big smile on your face also...pretty hard not to enjoy that action...eh?

Who are the other two dogs? Related in any way...?
