The female is out of Deuce and the big male is out of haze.

Mr. Wilson is on the tree with Moose and the lighter color one is Mantis.

In short Tom, this was Mr. Wilson 4th time to the wood's. He has only see one coon in the day time. One at night in a roll cage and the rest is history.

I love it when those youngsters get with the program like that...

Good foundations on top and bottom and then put the right dogs together...that's what it's all about...eh?

It's colder today...only got up to low 40s for a high and it's supposed to get down to around 22 tonight with a breeze...it's the best time of the year...and I love it.

It's a beautiful day...I got the coon out and showed the pups a live coon for the first time. I had old Yankee with them because he will be their trainer in another month or so.

These pictures are a great example of the progression pups go through if they have the goods...

There are 3 pups in this session along with old Yank...starting out, they weren't quite sure they wanted to be in the same vicinity but...

This is just a continuation of the last post...I couldn't help myself...too good to miss...

Females are thinkin' about this treeing stuff..

More female action...




These pups are from an inbred cross between Yank and Leinie...the litter was 9 pups with 2 males and 7 females. Every one of the pups in this litter has a great attitude, is good looking and each of them is very dog and people social. They have been interested in scent since the first play training that we did and now...they have moved ahead in a big stride and exactly the way I expect to see them progress...just like so many times before.

Yank will be the trainer that will lead the male and female that I keep to train, so it's always good to let them participate with that dog, like this, at least once or twice...I won't go into all that...everyone has their own way of doing things...I always use mine...that's all...

Doesn't hardly seem possible that we're seeing grandpups out of old Rabble Rouser and in some cases, probably great grand pups. One thing is for sure...they keep coming out interested and smart and good looking...and that's all good...eh?

I should have mentioned that my friend George K from Montana, finished his Rabble male, D-Man...to Dual Gr. Ch. this last weekend. George said it wasn't pretty but for the limited woods time he's been able to put on him this summer, he was glad to see him get the job done.

Congratulations George...that's a great accomplishment...nice job of sticking with it.

Yep...I guess I do remember that...I like my memories better

We have everything nailed down pretty good these days so no more horse hikes over the hill...eh?

We got the blessing of rain today for a good part of the day. We have needed moisture so badly that it hardly paid to take a dog out. Old Yank could get the job done but we'd really like to see some good conditions as we fire up these younger dogs. I'm going to plug in the freezer this weekend and thin out a few coons for the neighbor before they get too riled up over all the corn damage that's showing up out there. I'd like to see the corn fields down before the season comes in but I guess we'll take it how ever it comes.

I saw a big ol' fat coon cross the road right below the driveway and I hollered out the window that he better lose some weight quick so that he can run... or he's gonna end up in the freezer.

I'll be back at it this weekend with hunting and pup training so I can't hardly wait...I love to watch progression in pups from week to week.

Everything has changed fast over the last few days...the leaves are off color already and falling down like snow flakes...that's good...the coons will be easier to find and the underbrush will be clear.

I'm also enjoying seeing all these young pups coming along in training...it always refreshes my interest every time I see another generation coming along...good stuff....

Dave came out and loaded up a couple of dogs and went hunting...I think he took a group of kids along so I'm guessing it would be an interesting night.

It was dry as heck but it rained over night and most all day today so he got his hunt done before getting rained on and it was a blessing to get it because it rained enough to load up the ground again...finally...and should make for better going from here on out.

Right now, it's foggy as heck and still drizzling so I can't hardly see across the field but I'm hoping it clears up before dark so I can get out tonight.

Our hide season opens next weekend so a few more nights in the woods before then won't hurt the dogs. Yank and Gun are both in decent shape but far from being as hard as they need to be. By the time the first week in November is done, the dogs will be hard and the coons will be droppin'

I don't know where they came from...but there was a couple of coons out in the kennel this morning...stone dead...the water dishes were tipped and the pups about had the flaps tore off the holes trying to get in there and have at those coon carcasses. I really like what I'm seeing out of them and I'm guessing that they'll be far enough along to tag along by the end of November if the weather allows it. They'll be going on 7 months by that time so will be ready for a time or two to the woods...if I still have them at that time...

We'll see what tomorrow brings but hopefully I can get some dog work done yet this weekend.

I'll be looking forward to seeing Mike, Buck and Wendell at the end of the month...hopefully...there will still be a few coons alive in this part of the country

Dave and Chase came out last night and loaded up Yank and Gun again. It was foggy and drizzling...and most nights like that are more trouble than they're worth...but they went anyway.

I didn't talk to Dave yet this morning...but it looks like they had a real good night.

Gun and Yank...




It looked like they made 4 or more trees but the weather must have deteriorated bad because there were over 20 photos that basically didn't turn out, either because of fog or drizzle or both...

This isn't the best shot but it's all I could salvage from the other trees...


Yank is starting to look like he's coming into shape and Gun looked road hard and put up wet...he's looking hard already and not in his best shape. Gun isn't a "half way" kind of hound...he's in it 100% and giving it everything he has...I like this young hound a lot.

Leinie is finally over her heat cycle so I'm going to try and pair her up with Dagger to see if we can get her into hunting shape and give Dagger the guidance he needs to help him progress rapidly like I think he will. My view is that both Gun and Dagger will make a mark and they're going to be a lot of fun to watch and keep up with this fall while they get the experience and repetitions they need to show what they're made of.

Yank is coon smart, good on most tracks, locates quick enough and is a real nice tree dog...don't overlook him in your breeding programs, he's got something to offer along with your good females.

It's raining hard, it must have never stopped once it started around 10:00 PM last night. It wasn't a real hard rain last night so it at least allowed Dave to hunt. I'm hoping it lets up or stops so we can do a little yard work this afternoon but I guess we'll take it as it comes...this rain is a blessing for sure...

It couldn't have been too bad of a night...all things considered.

It might make me crazy trying to get Leinie back into shape but we'll do what we can.

The weather during this week is supposed to be pretty nice but then rain and cool off again towards the end...that will be just about right...eh?

Gonna get the Ruger sighted in again and then we'll be ready.

If her locate sounds as good as she looks, it has to be something special.

I've listened to some great locates over the years from old Rat's long dying bawl locate to Rabble's warbling locate to Raven's screaming...one bark locate to Yanks clear, high pitched locate to Gun's long, squalling bawl locate...to all the rest...it gives a guy the chills to hear it...no doubt about it.

After all these years and all those times to the woods...it's still something I don't think I could live without....

I'd love to hear her come down on the tree when she's a big dog Richard...I'll bet it will vibrate the heart strings for sure....

2012 kill season opened and I have got to work 3-11. I will be out of town till Sunday. Monday 3-11 again...... ........ I will be at it the rest of the week. It is going to be great to see you guy's. Tell Dave not to sight the Ruger in till we get there....hehehehe. I have got three young dog's that I will be putting all of my time into. Mr. Wilson, Mantis, and Cleo, Mr. Wilson will make the trip with us. If it work's out I will have one of the three ready for Southern Day's if not all three. My buddy Spook will be getting to see some wood time as well. When Moose has a girl friend Spook will get to go. I will be hunting alot alone this year. The night's I work 3-11 I will have two hound's with me. When I get off I will go to the wood's for a drop or two. This is the only way I can get done what need's to be done. I will be talking to you soon,

Caleb, my 15 yr old groupie, just bought a 4 month old grand pup of Griz and my Zack(Fireball). On the day he brought it home, he found out his next door neighbor had young dog come down with Parvo, so I told him to get it over to my place to give his vacine a chance to kick in. I really like her a lot. If my training schedule which consists of one wasn't full, I am not sure I would let her go home. lol
