We had a disease in our overpopulated raccoons. Started summer of 2023 and lasted till midwinter 2024. Very few road kills compared to 2022 and before. I was taking 60 plus a season within a mile of my house. I don't hunt hard or long hours. Couple times a week 2 or 3 hours a night.
This year dogs have treed 4. All have been small kittens. I harvested 1, left the rest to tree again. Just wanted show you what over population and a disease will do. They are out there just few and far between.
We also lost our overpopulated deer to disease this past summer.
Happy Hunting

EHD got the deer , drought this year made it worse. It is not spread deer to deer, it has to be bitten by a midge , they inhabit mud in two inches of water or less! Always seem to have a bumper crop of young raccoons , but start disappearing when the deer hunters start their deer feeders up , they use the fly bait on them!
