We're allowed up to 6 here. But have better luck with 4.

Pack size

Texas has no regulations for pack size. I was raised in the Brush Counry of South Texas where the highest bobcat population in North America exists. (One day we caught 7 bobcats and four never took a tree). Growing up there in the 60's and 70's, there were a number of "cat" hunters and I thought that I was one of them. Most of the hunters ran large packs of running dogs, primarily running walkers with a little bluetick thrown in for additional trailing power. It was not uncommon to see a cat hunter with at least 12 dogs on the ground. Everyone road hunted by driving the large ranch roads. I once hunted with two old gentlemen from Freer, TX and between them had 26 hounds! I think we did tree one cat that night and heard a lot of barking. The brush is extremely dense and short and everything down there has a thorn on it. A small dog has the advantages as it can manuever under a lot of the vegetation. In fact one of the more successful cat hunters for many years ran beagles.
I still catch a few bobcats with my blue dogs up here in the Hill Country but we do not have a very large population. We never have snow so everything is dry land hunting. I normally hunt 3 to 4 hounds up here. I catch 50 coons for every bobcat in the area around Menard. If the bobcat population continues to grow, I hope to be able to break my dogs from running coons.
I own Burnham Brothers Game Calls and call up a lot of bobcats around the country. My website is www.burnhambrothers.com and I recently release a DVD on calling bobcats.
