How long to let a female go over due on litter

Daisy is at 63 days today and has been acting like she ready to give birth for a couple days now. She is still up and eating and drinking.

Any suggestions what I should do? She has had 4 other litters and had no problems, and is only 7 years old! Is there a way to induce a dog?

Thanks John

old dogs

a dogs due date is based not always when she was bred but when she conceived. older females tend to have longer heat cycles and the semen can stay viable for a few days inside the female. I would not get too worried for another day or 2 . You can always call your vet , he is alot smarter then me.

If she is up and eating and drinking, then don't worry. If she goes into labor and gets distressed then get her to a vet. Yes they can give her oxytocin to induce labor but probably won't at 63 days. Have you had her checked or an ultrasound done? It may be a false pregnancy.

Hey Guys

2 Days ago she stopped eating for a day and then started eating again, she doesnt act sick. She is staying in the box a lot more. She is definately bred, she is as big as she has ever been. Will wait another day, hate going to the vet if I don't have too!! Thanks John

John - i have seen females go 5 days past the 63 days that they have guide lines for
But most of mine had them early like 5 /7
if she had 4 litters in 7 yr that takes a lot out of them maby her system slowed way down
with the # of pups she had & her age are all
a big factor, i bet she will have them tonight
that should make one nice cross, good luck
