What are the pros and cons of plots?
Size,speed,smarts or grit????

Most have medium builds, tuff feet, crazy game grit, stamina that will break and bust others .The nose power is something you'll have to study on,it ranges with different lines. On coon they tend to be more accurate, on bear or atleast ones that are trained for it they stay when it counts. That was the pros. The cons or atleast what I find with all that I've had they stay heavier as they get older . But that's me I'm sure others will think differently.

I am certainly no expert on the Plott breed, far from it.

I've only owned Plotts for about 7 or 8 years, and I've only owned 4.

But I have noticed 2 specific qualities about the ones I have had: Their Hard-Driving Desire to Hunt, their desire to be "My Buddy" (not just a "hunting machine" but an all-around Personable Dog.)

The first part, hard-driving desire to hunt, is something I've observed in not only my Plotts, but in friends' Plotts as well. I'm guessing that is a natural trait, but owners of other breeds may say that as well about their dogs. I can say the other breeds I've owned were Not all "go-getters", even though a good deal were.

The friendly "wanna be a buddy" trait is something I can't positively say is or isn't breed related. It does seem to apply to the majority of Plotts I've observed, though.

I'm happy to say that One Hundred percent of the small sample size of Plotts I've owned have been the loyal "buddy" type of dogs. I don't know for sure if that's a breed trait or just a result of the way I raise and interact with my dogs, maybe both?

I could write about the other traits of my experience with Plotts, but that wouldn't come close to defining a true answer since I've had such a small and limited exposure to this breed.

I've only written what I have to try to provide an answer to "E Town's" question.

There are long-time fanciers of the Plott who could give a more well-informed opinion the dogs. The 2 traits I mentioned stood out more than the others.

I agree. Best friend ever. Good on hunt. Love the breed.
