high tans

I'm interested in what they used to call the High-Tan or Saddleback hound they where redbones but had a black saddle back. I would love to be hunting one. Anyone see any around or know what kind of cross to make to re-develope this type of hound.
I would think a 1/2 redbone ,1/4 walker 1/4 BT would get you close.

My buddy had one a couple yrs ago. It was dna redbone. Was black blanket backed with red legs and red/black head. Ukc wanted them so he got it free. Check your redbone breeders for what your looking for.

I had 3 but sold them all but 1 and I run them on bear . They look like a real high tan dog , plus big block head and nice build I can post pics if you want . It was a cross bred litter half ukc registerd redbone and half walker ukc registerd . Best cross I've made to this date . That's why I breed my best to best papered or not .

High Tan

I've got a young female, she's got half red head, red tan legs, she was 1 year old in may, pkc reg super stake paid up, out of Grnnitech Honey Creek Spider and Nitech Novak's Black Flo. She has litter mates already treeing their own, but she hasn't but hunted much, but a smart acting pup. Her daddy is a walker, mother is a black&tan.

Black redbones

For years it's been no secret that once and a while when breeding two registered redbones you could get some black puppies . Most would turn partially red but breeders could not register them. I am glad to see that they now have a way to register them and compete and be able to track their ability.
Most of the ones I knew of had plenty of talent and perhaps carried some of the traits that were in demand.

I'm interested in finding a High-Tan out of two registered redbones. If you got one let me know about it.

It is my understanding that if I bred for this trait using registered redbones as both parents but ended up with some Bl;ack n Tan pups . I would be able to sell all the red pups as registered redbones and the B/T as X-bred.

If anyone else is interested in this you can PM me, I won't tell .I don't care if this idea ruffles the feathers of some of the redbone people . I love the redbone breed but I always have liked those old High-Tans and I plan on being able to offer people both.

Pretty easy to find a high tan in the leopard bred. B&t redbone cross or b&t colored leopard crossed on a redbone.

lol I just noticed we had the same signature Jason . I didn't mean to copy yours . I had a bumper sticker on my dog box back in the 70's that had that on it . I been thinking on having some printed out for all my buddies and their trashy dogs . as well as no respectable dog thief would go in a mans dog box and steal a possum dog !!
