Any advice?

Have a two year old female walker which I got from a fella who swore she was never going to be worth a thing. When I got her she was malnourished I got her back to health Been working with her the past 4 months hunted her about 3-5 nights a week with my young dog has treed several caged coons but will not hunt deeper than 150 yards, and will tree as soon as she gets out of the box. And will not hunt by herself. Will slick tree in a heartbeat. She has been beat the hell out of a few too many times by previous owner can't raise your voice at her without her hiding either under the truck or won't let you catch her again. With this being only my second hound as a young hunter I don't want to give up on her but in a honest opinion do you think she is a lost cause? I don't know how to make her hunt any deeper.

You may be wasting your time with the abuse she has had in the past it is going to be very hard to discipline her for doing wrong which is what she need for slick treeing. As far as how deep she hunts not all dogs hunt deep and I don't think that is something you can put in them they got the drive or they don't.. Good luck to you

if you enjoy the big challenge of trying to overcome this dogs mental blocks then keep hunting her , but i will say 4 months is alot of precious hunt time to put into a 2 year old ,and not have a dog treeing coons on a regular basis.i would move on personally, because a good pup will show alot more in that amount of training time than what your dog is showing.i have taken older hounds ,and guided them into some nice hounds, but they showed steady improvement with game exsposure.i have also had failure with older hounds ,because they just didnt have the tools necessary bred in to begin with.at the end of the day a houndsman has to decide what hounds he or she wants to feed ,and care for.

Get your self a shock collar this will allow you to discipline him or her with out you physically harming the hound. You will also need to get with some one that him a good hound when their dog tree walk him/her in knock a few coon out to it do this for a two or three weeks. Then tie him/her back don't let them chew on it. After three or four weeks. Then start hunt the hound by it self if it don't improve then you need to make the choice keep hunt them or move on. Best of luck to you and safe and enjoyable hunting

Leave the shocker at the house. I wouldnt beat on her for those slicks just yet just raise your voice sounds like. Keep pushing her on from those slicks. Put her on easy coon and feed her better than u would eat when u get home if she does good. I let someone ruin on of my young dogs once. But he snapped out of it with coon and viddles. Went on to make a coon dog.

Yes, she is most likely a lost cause.

Keep hunting her if you dont have anything else, but I would be looking for something.
