What constitutes a "good" hunt?

Each of us have our own opinions, and they vary from individual to individual.

What I'm looking for here is a "common" definition of what makes a hunt a "great" hunt. Now I'm talking about a competition hunt, so we all know that every participant wants to win....so we will put that as number 1 on the list. What I'm looking for is what are the other 9 things that you appreciate about going to a club and putting your entry fee down to hunt for a while...

I'll let a few of you respond before I throw in my .02 worth of opinion.....

Ready....GO.....

1. Winning

Winning is not number 1 with me.

A good hunt to me is everyone having a good time, decent dog work, no bickering or arguing, no dogs getting ugly, and hopefully someone nice and deserving getting a win.

I would rather draw out with people I like and lose than put up with a lot of hog wash and win. I have to put up with crazies during the day, I don't want to do it at night too.

Sorry: I just saw this was in the cur section. I hunt hounds so maybe not relevant.

I've always been about coming away after that particular 120 mins knowing the best dog won. So, that said, for me here are a couple on my list......

#2- Having fun.
Everyone getting along and calling their dog for what it does and everyone using good honest common sense about what a dog or dogs are doing/did! Who wants to go to a hunt knowing when you're loading up, heading to a club, spending money, etc that it's going to be war....GEEEEESH!!!

#3- Meeting new people.
Love meeting people with common interest, seeing what they are hunting and why. Hunting with other people and dogs to see how mine measures up. Excited to see a good dog work, find out how it's bred and the story behind it all. Most times make new friends in the breed!

Honesty
Integrity

There is a big difference in getting beat and getting cheated.

I like getting to hunt a good spot I otherwise wouldn't get to hunt. Competition , I like seeing good dogs work. Slick handlers don't impress me .

I guess if you're trying to get more interest in hunts . Heres my main one . Having enough hunts in an area to champion a dog . One hunt a year is basically not worth the extra registration fees and hunt fees.

When u have a hunt, host in a area that will supply many cast with good game population and the guides for it. Been dumped in an extra area when not enough guides were provided. Dry holed is what I call it.
