Thanks for the recognition Rick.
For those who dont know ...Banshee is a 2 coming 3 yr old female who is the last and only pup Gr.Nt.Ch. Ky Moonlight Breanna had from the cross with Gr.Nt.Ch. Ky Moonlight Woody. Bree has 21 pups who have lived to adulthood and Banshee makes the 9th one who has finished to Grand Nite Champion....and also has 4 more that are Nt.Ch. working their way to Grand Nite.
Because she is the last pup Bree has had, she is very special to us and we hope now that she has proven herself a consistent winner...she will also prove to be a good reproducer like her mother.
She finished to Grand Nite under the new UKC rules which now require 5 registered wins and 8 Nt.Ch. wins to finish to Grand Nite.
Banshee was able to get her 8 Nt.Ch. wins over 8 weekends in 4 different states, while the leaves were off...and competing against Nt.Ch. and Gr.Nt.Ch dogs under the new rules. Like many of the dogs from our breeding program, Banshee is another example of a team effort.
I raised her as a pup in Indiana till she was 3 months old, then she went to the cabin in Wisconsin where Lisa Key let her run loose and spent many hours working on handling, loading and roaming the hills as pups like to do. Then she came back to Indiana for a few months for some action packed starting and coon treeing in patch woods and creeks, after that she went to Michigan to spend some time with another member of out team, Jesse Boley for some work in the northern swamps and bigger woods for awhile. Then we decided she needed some time in the deep woods and mountains where the coons are few and further between so we packed her bags and sent her south by southeast to another member of our team in North Carolina. Adam, Eli, and Big Tate Wingler put her through her paces in the mountains and laurel thickets around the Pisgah National Forest for awhile and then they packed her doggie bag and shipped her back above the Mason Dixon line where people dont talk funny and after a kill season I felt like she was ready to be tested under these new tougher UKC rules. I wasnt real enthusiastic about having to hunt a young Nt.Ch. against seasoned more experienced and proven Grand Nites under these new rules...or the fact that now you need 8 Nt.Ch. wins to make Grand as opposed to 5 in the past....but last fall while discussing those changes with Allen Gingrich in a phone conversation, he explained that UKC's intent was to address the perception by many that it was getting a little too easy to win titles and they wanted to make it tougher...so it meant a little more...was harder to earn.
So I can see that point and I think that its valid. It is now tougher to make a Grand Nite under the new rules and thats probably a good thing. It takes longer...and you have to beat tougher, more experienced dogs (Gr.Nt.Ch. dogs) and in the end...going forward...I think that it goes a long way to restoring the credibility of the the title of Gr.Nt.Ch.
All in all we are very happy with Banshee and proud of the breeding and training program that everyone helping with this line has been putting the time and effort into.
We think we have a pretty good team and system of swapping dogs around to different partners and team mates in different states, and parts of the country, and varied terrains so that every dog ends up with broad and balanced experience to go with the traits and ability we are breeding for so they can win anywhere the get unsnapped and help advance the redbone breed going forward.
Thanks to all who believe in this line and breeding program and invest your valuable time, effort and support towards the common goal we all share...to breed and promote better redbones!
