''Coonhunting is alive and well""

Pretty sure we will never have the sheer numbers from yesteryear but the ones that get out their now and wearing out some boots are sure having a chance that most have never had...bluetick,redbone and two walkers won 11,000 each...The national championship presented a event that gave handlers and dogs a little recognition with a nice paycheck and another event in ohio that paid quite well..Glad to see the ones pursuing our sport making a little gas money and getting a chance to poke your chest out a bit..Good luck to all hunting tonight at any event in the country..And dont forget the black dog family is packing their bags and lunch boxes for the biggest week for their breed in Flora next week..The guys that show up at this hunt truly enjoy each others company as much as any event in the country!

Definitely lots of options out there.

The PKC spring classic is going on. I see they drew 58 dogs last night. I remember when Friday night at the Classic would draw 250-300 dogs.

Definitely alot of options..As a vendor our business at hunts is mostly if we want to attend just to say we are there but the possibilities are endless for the hunters that are competing.

Something I noticed and was a little disturbing. I received my walker hand book, out of boredom I looked at the states number of members. Texas has 3 members. They van't brag on the biggest there.

So much b's about the dollar kcs dominating, it's more about the older generation dropping off that has the numbers down. Everything associated with the baby boomer generation is seeing downturns in numbers. Work force, etc. We have some outstanding younger guys in our sport, it's just not in the number range of the baby boomer generation. Loss of hunting land, competition from other hobbies, and even hunting for money has decreased the hunt numbers. My generation coon hunted for the sport, I never would have hunted for the money. You could not pay me enough to climb mountains t to 6 nights a week, yet because I loved the sport I done it for free, or should I say I paid to do it. Gas, wear and tear on my truck, cost of dog and equipment, etc. And I never expected any money in return. Money tends to make something more like work and takes the fun out of it. Heck when hides were high I just gave them to someone in need. Dave
