I've done quite a bit of research on our turkey decline, read and listened to a lot of stuff and most tell the same story that there’s no smoking gun, it’s death by a thousand cuts, habitat loss, over harvesting, weather during hatching season, and what this post is about nest predators which I feel no doubt has a role in the decline just maybe not as much as people think. But it’s a easy fix for any ol boy up the road with a rifle, “I’m gonna try to kill all these coons, ya kno they’re killing all our turkey” I just laugh and say broaden your thinking some. I’m as sad as anybody over the turkeys, growing up here we had, what I would say a turkey hunting culture that the flame has slowly dwindled due to lack of numbers. So many they were getting to borderline nuisance numbers, some say in there opinion the land simply couldn’t sustain those numbers and that we’ve balanced out to a more “normal” population. And to agree with Last Chance for every turkey we’ve lost we gained 5 deer haha
